Robby Gordon Wins Race #1 In Detroit

DETROIT, Michigan (May 29, 2015) – Robby Gordon won his first SPEED Energy Stadium Super Truck Series Presented by TRAXXAS race of the 2015 season by overtaking E.J. Viso at the end of the back straight on the final lap in the first of three rounds of racing at the Belle Isle Detroit Grand Prix.

The race on the beautiful Belle Isle course was the seventh event of the SST season which is an uncharacteristically long period for Gordon to go winless. Gordon’s last SST race win was Nov. 1, 2014 at Las Vegas.

Viso took the lead from eventual third-place finisher Burt Jenner on lap four of the event and led until half way through the last lap, when Viso moved to the inside of the track heading into turn 7 and Gordon moved to the outside of the Venezuelan driver forcing Viso through a puddle on the inside. Knowing that Viso would lose grip in the wet patch, Gordon stayed wide and cut to the inside of the corner leaving Viso to spin his tires. From there the drive to the win around the 2.35-mile street circuit was uneventful for Gordon.

“I don’t believe I would have gotten to him and been able to pass for the win without forcing him to make a small mistake,” Gordon said. “The competition in this series has gotten so much stronger in the last year, which I am happy for, but it means I’ve got to work that much harder for race wins. It’s great that the SST series has gotten so much more competitive and the wins aren’t as easy to come by.”

Gordon’s SPEED Energy/TRAXXAS sponsored truck beat Viso’s LIVE/Think Loud Entertainment truck to the line by four-tenths of a second, followed by Jenner’s Gladiator truck in third, the TRAXXAS truck of Keegan Kincaid fourth, 3Dimensional.com’s Aaron Bambach of Detroit finishing fifth, Scotty Steele in the LIVE/Think Loud Entertainment truck sixth, P.J. Jones’ Traxxas truck in seventh, Bill Hynes in a third LIVE/Think Loud Entertainment entry eighth, Larry Job in 3 Bears Motorsports truck was ninth and Arie Luyendyk Jr. in the Quicken Loans truck finished 10th.

The Stadium Super Trucks will race Saturday on Belle Isle at 2:25 p.m. and again on Sunday at 2:15 p.m.

Stadium SUPER Trucks To Race At The Gold Coast 600

The Stadium SUPER Trucks return to Australia for the 2015 Castrol Gold Coast 600, October 23-25. It’s the biggest racing import since the days of ‘Indy’ with Robby Gordon’s spectacular stadium trucks being shipped from the US to the Gold Coast.

The stadium trucks were a crowd sensation at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide which resulted in one of the biggest attendances in history at the multi-award winning event.

The monsters on wheels generate speeds upwards of 210km/h, jumping man-made ramps and flying 100 metres through the air two storeys off the ground.

The stadium trucks have grown a massive following around the world, capturing the imagination of millions as an adrenaline pumping spectacle as these 600hp beasts fly through the air.

“I have so many amazing memories of the Gold Coast event,” said Gordon, who raced six times on the streets of Surfers Paradise.

“It is one of the very best street tracks in the world and the way the Gold Coast turns it on is incredible. We found in March of this year at the Clipsal 500 that the Australian motorsports fans are amazing and love to see the stadium trucks fly through the air and beat and bang only the way they can.

“To be able to bring our trucks to Queensland’s biggest party is going to be a huge highlight for our series. The SSTs on that track will be absolutely spectacular and we can’t wait to get back to Australia in October.”

V8 Supercars CEO James Warburton said with the addition of Cold Chisel and stadium trucks the event would grow beyond the additional 10,000 fans that attended last October.

“Last year we said that we would make this the biggest entertainment event on the Gold Coast and we delivered,” he said. “Now we are raising the bar. Cold Chisel will be one of the biggest shows the event has had.

“And the stadium trucks have to be seen to be believed. Their show in Adelaide had people on their feet. It is fantastic they have been able to come back to Australia and the Castrol Gold Coast 600 in October.

Stadium Super Trucks Reach Another Milestone With A Prestigious Invitation to England’s Goodwood Festival of Speed June 25-28

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 13, 2015) – Robby Gordon and Stadium Super Trucks have been invited to the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed, the world’s largest and most diverse celebration of motorsports history taking place June 25-28 on the English estate of the Earl of March in West Sussex, England.

Two Stadium Super Trucks, along with a ramp that allows the SST trucks to fly through the air in dramatic fashion during races, will be featured along with hundreds of other modern and historic race cars and trucks from all corners of the globe. The race vehicles will take part in demonstrations and competition runs up the nine-turn 1.16-mile Hillclimb in the Goodwood House grounds approximately 80 miles southwest of London.

“It is and incredible honor to be invited by Lord March to attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed with our Stadium Super Trucks,” said Gordon, who founded the SST series and conducted its first race in April 2013. “Goodwood is a who’s who of motorsports and to be included as part of this amazing program is a tremendous testament for our company. For our young series to gain international recognition and be invited to such prestigious events alongside Formula 1, NASCAR and other forms of motorsports is a great testament to our drivers and team members.”

Since 1993 the Festival has been a celebration of the world’s greatest cars and drivers, and the event has grown to attract hundreds of thousands of fans every year at the British estate. Not only will Gordon drive a Stadium Super Truck on the famous Hillclimb Circuit in a timed event, but a second truck will be featured in a new off-road venue on the estate’s activity field.

Now in its third season of competition, the SPEED Energy Stadium Super Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS is a full series of races featuring identically prepared trucks resembling their smaller radio control TRAXXAS counterparts. The trucks race at large IndyCar street circuit events, massive Australian V8 SuperCar races, in stadiums, on dirt and on paved surfaces. The versatile trucks provide an off-the-ground dimension to racing normally reserved for the off-road worlds of Baja and Dakar, which few American fans have an opportunity to witness in person. Gordon’s introduction of the SST series has re-introduced fascinating elements of off-road racing to crowds regularly in excess of 100,000 fans at venues including the Long Beach Grand Prix, the Belle Isle Detroit Grand Prix, X Games Austin, the Clipsal 500 V8 SuperCar race in Adelaide, Australia and other high-profile events.

Toyo Tires ‘All or Nothing’ as the Official Tire of SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road for 2015

Toyo Tires ‘All or Nothing’ as the Official Tire of SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road for 2015

CYPRESS, CA ( March 27, 2015) –
Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp continues with the ‘All or Nothing’ mantra as they announce that Toyo Tires® will be the Official Tire of SPEED® Energy Formula Off-Road for 2015. This marks the third season that Toyo Tires has supported the series, and the second year that all Stadium SUPER Trucks™ (SST) will compete on Toyo® Open Country® A/T II tires. Toyo Open Country tires are known for their traction, durability, and uniformity, all critical to the performance of the 600-plus horsepower SST trucks.

The race series was founded by Team Toyo® off-road champion, and former NASCAR® and IndyCar® driver, Robby Gordon. A field of identically prepared SST trucks tackle a serpentine race course with ramp jumps that can launch them 20 feet in the air. Intense action, combined with speeds as high as 130-mph, keep spectators on the edges of their seats.

“The Toyo Open Country A/T II is a great fit as the spec tire for the SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road series and demonstrates race after race the performance, consistency and durability known by light truck enthusiasts,” said Amy Coleman, senior director of marketing, Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. “Just as important, the series and drivers truly represent our brand’s ‘All or Nothing’ attitude, and provide a new and exciting platform to reach race fans around the world.”

“Toyo Tires continues to be a great partner for Stadium Super Trucks and our entire off-road racing program,” said SST founder and president Robby Gordon. “We will continue to create authentic product testimonials for them whether we race on dirt or asphalt. With all the variables in racing, one thing that doesn’t concern us is the reliability of our Toyo Tires which are on every SST truck.”

This weekend, drivers will compete in front of IndyCar fans during the Streets of St. Petersburg in St. Petersburg, FL. The series kicked off the 2015 season earlier this month at the Clipsal® 500 race weekend in Adelaide, Australia. Local media reports indicated immediate acceptance and overwhelming popularity of the trucks by Australian race fans.

The remaining 2015 events will be held throughout the US and Canada and will include national TV coverage.

In addition to the series sponsorship, six races will also feature a Toyo Tires branded SST truck with a Team Toyo Off-Road driver at the wheel. The Toyo Tires big rig and models will also attend SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road events around the country, and fans will find photos and updates on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Top Gear Loves Stadium SUPER Trucks

http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/this-is-the-most-spectacular-race-finish-ever-2015-03-11

Stadium Supertrucks is an excellent form of motorsport. It’s the brainchild of Robby Gordon – a man who’s raced pretty much every kind of four-wheeled vehicle possible – and in its most distilled form is basically real life Micro Machines.

See, when someone says, ‘you know what would make racing better? Jumps!’ they’re often dismissed as immature fools. But, as Robby has proved with Stadium Supertrucks, jumps are exactly what racing needs. Lots of them. Being tackled by lolloping 600bhp trophy trucks all fighting for gaps that aren’t there.

This is exactly what happened during a recent round at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

Plucky Californian Sheldon Creed was battling it out with Robby Gordon for second place, where at the final corner, Gordon tripoded his way round Creed to take the position. Not happy, Creed booted the throttle planning to out jump Gordon and to literally leapfrog himself to second place. That didn’t work. Instead he cannoned himself towards the fence, meaning he had to overcorrect on landing causing him to barrel roll spectacularly over the finish line.

With the help of a hard wall, Creed managed to land back on all fours, where he dusted himself down and made his way to the podium. Consider our hats doffed.

Driver line-up confirmed for Stadium SUPER Trucks Debut at Clipsal 500

Adelaide, South Australia ( February 16, 2015) – Clipsal 500 Adelaide organizers today announced the full driver line-up for the Toyo Tires Stadium Super Trucks Presented by Traxxas (SST) race, which will be the Australia debut of the world’s newest and most exciting form of racing.

SST founder and two-time series champion Robby Gordon will be the star attraction when these 600 horsepower V8 trucks line up on the starting grid for next week’s Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

The Toyo Tires Stadium Super Trucks race will see high profile local and international drivers racing side by side in 10 high powered off-road trucks. The trucks approach speeds of up to 140 mph and ramps can launch the trucks 20 feet into the air and 150 feet down the track.

The starting line-up for the debut of the SST Series in Australia includes five drivers who have competed in the Stadium Super Truck Series previously; Venezuelan IndyCar driver E.J. Viso , rising star Keegan Kincaid, Charles Dorrance, Bill Hynes, and the future of off-road racing, 17 year-old Sheldon Creed.

The Australian contingent eager to impress in their first outing behind the wheel of a Stadium Super Truck consists of; off-road motorcycle racer Toby Price, off-road racing legend Brad Gallard, former V8 Supercars driver and 24-hour Bathurst winner Nathan Pretty and Australia’s most prolific stunt rider Matt Mingay.

Although accustomed to off-road racing on two wheels, Toby Price will be on a high heading into the Clipsal 500 Adelaide after recently becoming just the second Australian to stand on the winners’ podium at the grueling Dakar Rally, clinching third overall after the final stage in Argentina.

The SST’s will hit the track at the 2015 V8 Supercars season opener on Thursday, February 26th, with specially designed jumps added to the iconic Adelaide street circuit and racing scheduled to run over four days.

“Stadium Super Trucks have become hugely popular at motor racing events in the United States and we’re very excited to be hosting the first ever Stadium Super Trucks event outside of North America,” said Clipsal 500 CEO Mark Warren.

Toyo Tires has acquired the naming rights sponsorship of the Australian debut of Stadium Super Trucks presented by TRAXXAS at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide. Supporting sponsors of the series include; Clipsal By Schneider Electric, Traxxas, Hoggs Breath Café, Jet Pilot and GoPro.

Competition on track is set to be fierce as the trucks literally fly through Victoria Park, featuring drivers from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds.

AutoMatters+ Story On SST

AutoMatters+ covered three of Robby Gordon’s “SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road SUPER Trucks Presented by Traxxas” events in 2014. The last of these was at a new venue: a challenging, purpose-built racetrack at MGM Resorts Village across Las Vegas Boulevard from the Luxor. This provided the room for a much longer track, as well as better vantage points from which to see the racing, than did last year’s location at Caesar’s Palace.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but an encounter I had while still in the parking lot would be very meaningful by the end of the evening. Shortly after I parked my car, another pulled up right beside me. I started a conversation with its occupants and learned that the family — which included two little kids — was visiting from California. This was not their first SUPER Trucks event and everyone was really excited to be there. Hold that thought and we’ll come back to this near the end.

In addition to SUPER Trucks racing, fans enjoyed a full evening’s entertainment that also included Legend car racing, live music from “The Roxy Gun Project” and Traxxas R/C scale models.

The SUPER Trucks racing was wild. Trucks launched off of high jumps and often careened into each other, lap after lap. The most exciting feature of the track was an over-and-under jump. It literally sent SUPER Trucks flying directly over other SUPER Trucks that were racing along the track right in front of the jump — and yes, there were some spectacular crashes there, too.

Many spectators watched the spectacle from atop what looked like a huge, flat-topped water tank. I was absolutely blown away with the event — especially the final SUPER Trucks race. The action got so intense and there was so much going on all over the track that I didn’t know where to look, or where to point my cameras (and speaking of cameras, hopefully they’ll have more light next time).

If you love racing, do yourself a favor and go to the SUPER Trucks event in Las Vegas this year. It is motorized mayhem!

Since this was their season finale, Robby and the drivers had one last, very special treat in store for their fans. They did something that I have never seen done before. After the racing was over, the drivers drove their trucks to where the fans could get next to them and check them out. Then some of the crew members removed colorful body panels covered in racing graphics from their SUPER Trucks and gave them to several very lucky and appreciative fans as souvenirs! They, in turn, got them autographed by the drivers. Then they carried away their treasures, which included huge truck hoods.

I asked a crewmember whether the panels — some of which were undamaged from the racing and others which were repairable — are expensive. They said yes, but that they were giving them away to show their appreciation for their fans.

One fan walked up to Robby and proceeded to show him a two-page document that he had written. Robby actually took the time to read it. Then, with a warm smile on his face, Robby shook his hand. I have never seen race fans treated nearly as well as they were that evening.

Remember the family that I told you about earlier? Well, shortly after I returned to my car in the parking lot after the races, they just happened to walk up to their car. I asked them whether they had gotten any souvenirs, to which they excitedly told me that they had. Then the woman showed me the racing number plate that Robby had given her from his personal SUPER Truck — the one that he had raced that evening. She told me that Robby had explained to her that those number plates were hard to come by, yet despite that, since her family members were loyal, long-time fans, he not only gave her that number plate but offered to give her family the other one, too!

Needless to say, the whole family — kids and all — was absolutely thrilled. The mom told me that they will hang them on the walls of their kids’ rooms. She added that their garage walls are covered in colorful racing body panels.
