TORONTO, Ontario, Canada (July 15, 2014) – Following its hugely successful debut at X Games Austin, the SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS series returns to competition at the Honda Indy Toronto this weekend.

The TRAXXAS trucks will be making their way to the popular Toronto IndyCar circuit for the second consecutive year after debuting in great style in 2013. The trucks will race twice in Toronto – at 2:20 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday – just as they did last season when Justin Lofton and Sheldon Creed won races on the 1.755-mile (2.84 km) circuit.

The Honda Indy Toronto track is an 11-turn temporary street course located in downtown Toronto. It is constructed throughout and around picturesque Exhibition Place grounds and utilizes Lake Shore Boulevard as its backstretch.
Creed will return to defend his race win from 2013, along with multiple-time 2014 winners Apdaly Lopez and Robby Gordon among others.

The Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS series’ only practice session takes place Friday at 11:50 a.m., which will determine starting positions for Saturday’s race. Fastest lap times from Saturday’s race will determine the lineup for Sunday’s race.

NBCSN will broadcast the race at 10 p.m. PDT on July 31 (1 a.m. EDT Aug. 1). Following its trip to Toronto, the series will shift to the west coast for its final three races of the 2014 season at the Sand Sport Super Show in Orange County, Calif. Sept. 19-20; the Coronado Speed Festival Sept. 21 and in Las Vegas in conjunction with the SEMA Show in early November.

The Stadium Super Trucks that will race in Toronto will hit huge man-made ramps at more than 100 mph at multiple locations throughout the downtown street circuit hurling drivers nearly 20 feet in the air and 150 feet down course. The series features identically prepared trucks which are made to resemble their scaled-down Traxxas radio-control-car counterparts. Like their Traxxas namesake the trucks are designed to take flight. However, unlike RC trucks, they produce 600 horsepower generating speeds upwards of 130 miles per hour and race on DOT approved Toyo Tires.

AUSTIN, Texas (June 8, 2014) – Apdaly Lopez, from Tecate, B.C., Mexico, scored an impressive victory in X Games Austin’s Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS race in front of a sun-scorched crowd and a live ABC network broadcast.

Lopez scored his second win of the season driving the RPM Motorsports/VisitMexico.com TRAXXAS truck one day after competing in his home country’s Baja 500 in Ensenada.  Sheldon Creed in the TRAXXAS truck came in second with Robby Gordon driving the SPEED Energy/TRAXXAS truck came home third.

The 16-truck final race at the Circuit of the Americas was set by two 10-truck heat races where only the top-eight trucks advanced to the finals.  The remainder of the top-10 trucks included Jerett Brooks in the RePlay XD/Synergy Electric truck in fourth, Scotty Steele in fifth, Keegan Kincaid in the TRAXXAS truck, Henrique Cisneros in the Momo/Gridstar Racing truck, Nick Baumgartner in the Loctite machine, Gavin Harlien in the Tonka truck and Arie Luyendyk Jr. in the Gunk machine rounding out the top 10.

Created in 2013 as a series featuring identically prepared 600 horse-power trucks racing on DOT-approved Toyo Tires, the series’ popularity is driven by the public’s overwhelming interest in trucks, off-road racing and the unique extreme-sport format of the trucks.  The Traxxas-branded trucks are capable of launching more than 20 feet in the air covering distances more than 150 feet.  Speeds in excess of 150 mph reached on long straights.  What sets the program apart from other racing series is that all the SST trucks are identically prepared and delivered to drivers in race-ready condition.  Races are decided by driver skill alone rather than individual team engineering and budgets. Largest TRAXXAS Field in History to Race at X Games Austin

AUSTIN, Texas (June 6, 2014) – A live national television audience will see 20 Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS Stadium Super Trucks race at the beautiful Circuit of the Americas (COTA) for X Games Austin. The live ESPN and ABC broadcast of the TRAXXAS series will mark the first time the TRAXXAS series or off-road racing has enjoyed a live network broadcast.

Two heat races with 10 trucks each will race at 12 p.m. EDT Sunday live on ESPN. The first eight finishers in each race will transfer to the final which will feature 16 trucks. The broadcast of the Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS will begin at 2 p.m. EDT on ABC, with the green flag falling at 2:20 p.m.
The majority of the trucks practiced at the COTA facility Friday afternoon.

Several drivers, including Justin Matney, Jay Reichert, B.J. Baldwin and Robby Gordon are in Ensenada, Mexico competing in Saturday’s Baja 500, one of the crown jewels of off-road racing. NASCAR’s Justin Lofton who is competing at Texas Motor Speedway Friday night in the NASCAR Camping World Truck series race and also missed Friday’s first practice. All 20 drivers will have another opportunity on the track Sunday morning at 8 a.m. (CDT) with qualifying for the two heat races coming immediately following practice.

Venezuelan driver and Verizon IndyCar driver E.J. Viso swept all three Formula Off-Road by TRAXXAS races at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix last weekend, and will be looking to make it four straight in Austin. Other series winners in 2014 include Apdaly Lopez of Tecate, B.C. Mexico (1 win); P.J. Jones of Scottsdale, Ariz. (1) and Orange, California’s Gordon (3).

E.J. Viso Wins Third TRAXXAS Truck Race at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix

DETROIT, Mich. (June 1, 2014) – E.J. Viso completed a weekend sweep of three Menards Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS races, taking Sunday’s race in front of a massive audience at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. Viso’s Momo/Gridstar truck dominated a weekend of thrilling truck racing.

“I am obviously starting to feel more comfortable with the truck,” Viso said. “It was a great weekend and a great track. This new series is going to be the next thing, it’s really catching on with the fans, sponsors and drivers. The trucks are very fun to drive and I had a blast. This is only my second opportunity in the trucks, and I hope there are many others. Now I am looking forward to X Games next weekend in Austin (Texas) which I am sure is going to be a different animal but I am ready for that challenge.”

Burt Jenner’s Gladiator truck led going to the final lap with Viso in close pursuit. Viso overtook Jenner in turn four of the 2.35-mile street circuit as the two went side by side through the 90-degree right hand corner. Viso and Jenner touched in close racing quarters, which moved Jenner out of the racing groove allowing Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s Quicken Loans truck and Robby Gordon’s Menards/TRAXXAS sponsored machine to move to second and third respectively, which is where they finished.

Jenner brought his truck home in fourth after leading much of the race.
Rochester Hills, Michigan’s Aaron Bambach, driving the BZ’s Twisted Blend/3deminsional.com truck followed up Saturday’s podium finish with a fifth-place drive, while the RPM/VisitMexico.com driver Apdaly Lopez finished sixth. Scotty Steele finished seventh after a second-place run Saturday, and TRAXXAS driver Keegan Kincaid rolled his truck for the second time on the weekend and was credited with an eighth-place finish.

Four metal ramps were positioned throughout the course, with the trucks jumping as much as 15 feet in the air and more than 100 feet down course bringing cheers and gasps from the huge Belle Isle crowd.

The SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS series now moves to Austin, Texas and the ESPN X Games, marking the first time in series history that it will be featured in a live network television broadcast. The final race at X Games Austin will air Sunday, June 8 on ABC at 12:30 p.m.

DETROIT, Mich. (May 31, 2014) – E.J. Viso took his second Menards Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS victory in as many days at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix Saturday, besting 16-year-old Scotty Steele by 1.540 seconds in the high-flying Stadium Super Trucks.

Viso, 29, inherited the lead from Steele on lap three of five around the 2.35-mile race circuit, and cruised to victory lane. Despite his smooth drive, Viso’s Momo/Gridstar truck experienced his biggest challenge after taking the checkered flag halfway through his cool-down lap. Viso displayed the tough nature of the trucks, which are modeled after scaled-down TRAXXAS radio control trucks, buy rolling it in a failed attempt at a victory burnout. In true TRAXXAS fashion, track workers pushed the truck back on its wheels, with Viso still strapped inside. He then drove his perfect truck straight to victory lane.

“I don’t know what happened I think something is wrong with my truck, it can only go fast. When I go slow it just flips upside down,” the Venezuelan driver joked with series owner Robby Gordon. “It’s super exciting every time I jump in the truck. It was a short race and I had to start attacking from the beginning, but it was a lot of fun again and I look forward to going for a weekend sweep Sunday.”

Four steel ramps were positioned throughout the course, with the trucks jumping as much as 15 feet in the air and more than 100 feet down course bringing cheers and gasps from the huge Belle Isle crowd.

“This is my second podium after finishing third at Las Vegas last year,” said the young driver Steele from Peoria, Ariz. “This is a much faster track than what Caesars Palace was in Vegas and I feel like I did a really nice job today. I was aggressive from the start, and while I made a few mistakes, I held off Aaron (Bambach) for third for my best finish.”

Bambach, from nearby Rochester Hills, Mich. drove a smooth and fast race, making few mistakes in his first weekend of driving a Stadium Super Truck. The veteran road course racer who has competed several times at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix in different series, drove the BZ’s Twisted Blend/3deminsional.com truck without putting a mark on it en route to third-place finish.

The Menards Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS will race once more on Belle Isle at 1:55 p.m. Sunday. The overall weekend winner will be determined by an average finish from all three races, with any ties broken by the highest finishers in Sunday’s race. DETROIT, Mich. (May 30, 2014) – Venezuela’s E.J. Viso drove his Menards Formula Off-Road Presented TRAXXAS truck to victory lane Friday at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix in front of thousands of new truck racing fans.

Viso, driving the No. 19 Momo/Gridstar-sponsored truck, inherited the lead from teammate Henrique Cisneros in the No. 91 Momo/Gridstar truck after he took the first of two consecutive metal ramps located on the front-stretch of the 2.35-mile street circuit awkwardly. The result was a rough landing which left Cisneros little time to correct his truck before launching off the second ramp. The second landing was even rougher and Cisneros pounded the front-stretch wall with his truck’s right front ending his race.

As Viso continued to lead the nine-truck field, TRAXXAS driver Keegan Kincaid found trouble in a single-truck incident with three laps to go and put him upside down on the backstretch where his truck blocked the racing lane. While Kincaid unbuckled and crawled out of his TRAXXAS truck unhurt even before safety crews arrived, and his truck was able to return to competition, race officials determined the truck could not be righted quickly enough to resume the race.

Viso was declared the winner at that point.

“My friend has been telling me all day that I haven’t stopped smiling,” said Viso, a veteran of five years in the Verizon IndyCar Series. “These trucks are so fun, and after throwing away a win at Long Beach earlier this year it was good to get the first win of the three races this weekend in Detroit. This is going to be a great weekend of racing and I am looking forward to standing on the podium again this weekend.”

Arie Luyendyk Jr. was running second late in the race when he made a bold move on Viso for the race lead. Viso protected his line pinching Luyendyk’s Quicken Loans truck down causing him to lose momentum, allowing Robby Gordon to make a clean pass for second which is where the Orange, Calif. driver finished. Luyendyk finished third with series rookie Aaron Bambach from nearby Rochester Hills, Mich. taking home fourth in the BZ’s Twisted Blend/3deminsional.com TRAXXAS truck. Los Angeles driver Burt Jenner in the Gladiator truck took fifth, Scotty Steele came home sixth. Kincaid was credited with seventh, Cisneros eighth and last week’s winner at Indianapolis Apdaly Lopez finished ninth in the RPM/VisitMexico.com truck after retiring early with a mechanical issue.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 28, 2014) – Quicken Loans and Arie Luyendyk Jr. will headline a group of nine drivers in the Menards-sponsored Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS race in Detroit Friday-Sunday.  The Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix will feature Stadium Super Truck (SST) races on each of the three days, with Luyendyk making his second appearance in an SST this season.

Luyendyk and his Quicken Loans truck will race on beautiful Belle Isle in the middle of the Detroit River Friday at 4:35 p.m., Saturday at 2:10 p.m. and Sunday at 1:55 p.m.  While Detroit has long been known for its proud racing and muscle car heritage, the SST TRAXXAS trucks will be making their debut in the Motor City bringing a unique and thrilling style of racing that few on Belle Isle have ever experienced.

Apdaly Lopez wins Historic Menards at the Brickyard by TRAXXAS Race

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 23, 2014) – Apdaly Lopez of Tecate, B.C. Mexico entered racing’s history books Friday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway by capturing the win in the second of two Menards at the Brickyard by TRAXXAS races and securing the overall win with the highest average finish in the two races.  It marked the first time in the 105-year history of the famed Brickyard that trucks raced on the property.

Lopez, 19, driving the VisitMexico.com/RPM Off-Road truck was making his eighth start in the Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS series.  He is second-generation off-road specialist and is an up-and-coming star in the TRAXXAS series and the deserts of Baja.

Robby Gordon won the first of the two races at Indianapolis in the Menards/SPEED Energy truck and finished fourth in the overall standings given his sixth-place finish in the second race.  Lopez finished third in race one before winning race two.

“I just kept looking in my mirror and would see the guys behind me start racing,” Lopez said.  “I wasn’t going to make a mistake and when they got close I just gave it a little more and pulled away.  What an honor to win a race at Indianapolis.”

Keegan Kincaid driving the blue TRAXXAS truck and Jerett Brooks in the Synergy Electric truck took home second and third-place honors, followed by Gordon and Sheldon Creed in the Red TRAXXAS truck. Arie Luyendyk Jr. in the Relief OTC/Harding Asphalt truck finished sixth, Scotty Steele’s Steele Racing machine finished seventh with series newcomers Burt Jenner in the Gladiator truck and Robbie Pierce in the Mastercraft/IMPACT truck finishing eighth and ninth.

On the warmup lap for race one, Charles Dorrance of Austin, Tex. aggressively hit the second of two 36-inch tall ramps on the course and nose-dived his truck into the infield grass of the Speedway and tumbled end-over-end for several hundred yards before climbing out of the destroyed Stadium Super Truck under his own power.  He was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and treated for a rib injury.
