SST To Race In Mexico City At Race Of Champions

Robby Gordon brings his spectacular Stadium Super Trucks to ROC Mexico

Robby Gordon’s Stadium Super Trucks will be raced by some of the world’s greatest drivers at next month’s Race Of Champions in Mexico City.

Stadium Super Trucks, which are among the most spectacular vehicles in motorsport, will be featured in the ROC main event and also have their own support race featuring aluminium jumps both days – with Gordon himself in action.

Gordon will bring his SPEED XX UTVs as well, to be raced by drivers from Formula 1, Le Mans, NASCAR, IndyCar and Rally X as part of a packed weekend of action with the winner decided by driver skill alone.

ROC Mexico will be held on January 19-20, 2019 at the Foro Sol, the iconic amphitheatre forming part of Mexico City’s Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez Formula 1 circuit, where race fans will have a perfect view from every seat

Ticket prices start at just $1,450 pesos for two days of non-stop action.

American motor sport superstar Robby Gordon will bring his stunning Stadium Super Trucks, and his versatile SPEED XX UTV’s to the Race Of Champions – on January 19-20, 2019 at the Foro Sol, the amphitheatre forming part of Mexico City’s AutódromoHermanos Rodríguez Formula 1 circuit.

One of the most multitalented drivers in the world, Gordon has competed in a range of series including NASCAR, CART, IndyCar, Trans-Am, IMSA and the Dakar Rally. The American raced for over 20 years in the NASCAR Cup Series, taking three wins and 39 top-tens. He has also had three top-five finishes in the Indianapolis 500, and taken four Baja 500 victories, three Baja 1000 wins and seven SCORE International off-road championships. The American is a regular stage winner on the brutal Dakar Rally, where he will again be competing early in 2019.

In addition, Gordon has twice won the championship in the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks series. These trucks need to be seen to be believed – which is fortunate for the crowds heading to Mexico City’s ForoSol as they will now be among the vehicles in action at the Race Of Champions, along with his fun-packed SPEED XX UTV

ROC UTV

The Stadium Super Trucks will also have their own standalone support race featuring aluminium jumps after both days of competition at ROC Mexico. This will be head-to-head racing just like the main Race Of Champions, and Gordon himself will compete.

Gordon said: “It’s cool to be coming back to the Race Of Champions next month, and to have the opportunity to introduce our Stadium Super Trucks and our SPEED XX UTVs to all the race fans in Mexico City’s Foro Sol. We know they will be mighty additions to the line-up of machinery to be raced at this special event.

“We’re especially thrilled that the Stadium Super Trucks will have their own separate support race once the main racing action has finished on both Saturday and Sunday. I know the trucks will be a first for many of the competing drivers – not to mention the spectators – but these 650 hp trucks have the capability to jump 20 or 30 feet off the ground for the length of a football field so either way it will be exciting…”

The Race Of Champions is an annual contest which has a history dating back over 30 years. It brings together many of the world’s greatest drivers from motorsport’s major disciplines – including Formula 1, NASCAR, IndyCar, Le Mans and RallyX – and sets them free to battle head-to-head in identical machinery.

The Foro Sol will join a list of prestigious venues to have hosted ROC since 1988 – including Beijing’s Bird’s Nest and London’s Olympic stadiums, Stade de France in Paris, Wembley Stadium in London, Miami’s Marlins Park plus a wide range of exotic locations all over the world from Bangkok to Barbados to Riyadh.

Now the greats of Mexican motorsport have the chance to race some of the world’s best drivers – all in ROC’s identical machinery. The ROC Mexico field features F1 legends Sebastian Vettel and David Coulthard, ‘Mr Le Mans’ Tom Kristensen, triple Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves, reigning FIA World Rally X Champion Johan Kristoffersson, Formula E Champion Lucas di Grassi plus FIA Formula 3 European Champion Mick Schumacher and Mexican racers Memo Rojas, Daniel Suárez, Benito Guerra and Patricio O’Ward.

The competitors will race in a stunning range of supercars that have been specially prepared for ROC to push them to the absolute limit. To prevail, they will have to master this mix of machines, forcing them to adapt their driving style as they make regular switches between cars. It makes for a thrilling spectacle, with head-to-head races often decided by fractions of a second – as the screams of the crowd compete for supremacy with the screams of the engines…

The Race Of Champions is run over two days: first comes the ROC Nations Cup (on Saturday January 19) when drivers pair up in teams based on nationality – including the hosts Mexico – to bid for the title of ‘World’s Fastest Nation’. Then on Sunday January 20 it’s time for the Race Of Champions itself, when teamwork goes out of the window and it’s a flat-out battle for individual glory.

But that’s not all. The Race Of Champions is a non-stop show from start to finish and also features stunt shows on four wheels and two plus DJs, cheerleaders and plenty of other entertainment to keep the race fans on the edge of their seats.

ROC President Fredrik Johnsson said: “Robby is one of the most colourful figures in world motor sport. At his first Race Of Champions appearance in 2001 he rolled one car, pulled off another spectacular save and set a lap record round our Gran Canaria circuit that still stands… talk about giving the fans value for money!

“But if that sounds good just wait till you see his SPEED XX’s and his Stadium Super Trucks, which are sure to put a smile on the faces of all the drivers – and everyone watching. We have greats racing from Formula 1, Le Mans, IndyCar, NASCAR and RallyX but I bet you will never have had the chance to watch them drive anything like this before. If you’ve never seen a truck fly, now’s your chance…”

Ticket prices start at just $1,450 pesos for two days of non-stop action. Further details about the field of drivers will be announced in the run-up to January’s event.

Texas Motor Speedway Adds Stadium SUPER Trucks to 2017 Race Schedule

Fort Worth, Texas (August 27, 2016)-
Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage announced today the addition of the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS to the speedway’s racing lineup in 2017.

The addition of Stadium SUPER Trucks will create a diverse tripleheader weekend in June as the racing series will be paired with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and Verizon IndyCar Series. The Stadium SUPER trucks feature event will take place in advance of the Firestone 600 on Saturday, June 10.

The widely popular SST Series features 12 identically prepared 650-horsepower trucks that are built to take flight much like their scaled down TRAXXAS radio-control-car counterparts. Able to race on virtually any surface, the SST trucks will race along the speedway’s pit road, frontstretch and portion of the infield. A detailed layout of the course will be announced at a later date.

Compared to the oval racing of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and Verizon IndyCar Series, the SST races will feature 36-inch tall aluminum ramps placed in strategic locations throughout the course, allowing the trucks to fly 20 feet off the ground and hundreds of feet down the course, all while hitting speeds upwards of 140 miles per hour.

The announcement was made by Gossage and former INDYCAR and NASCAR driver Robby Gordon, who created the series in 2013, at Texas Motor Speedway prior to Saturday night’s resumption of the Firestone 600 that was suspended from its June date due to weather-related issues.

“For Stadium SUPER Trucks to return back to the state of Texas, after competing at X Games Austin for two successful years, I cannot be more excited,” Stadium SUPER Trucks President Robby Gordon said. “When you think of Texas two things come to mind; trucks and things that are big. Stadium SUPER Trucks gives you both, with the excitement of competitive door-to-door racing with big air.”

Stadium SUPER Trucks feature an 11-event schedule in 2016 spanning five different countries, touring as co-events with INDYCAR and V8 Supercar in Australia and New Zealand.

With a wide variety of drivers from all forms of motorsports, competitors such as 2015 series champion Sheldon Creed, Arie Luyendyk Jr., Tyler McQuarrie, as well as Australian’s Matt Brabham and Paul Morris all have an equal opportunity at winning.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (August 9, 2016) – SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS joins forces with TORC: The Off-Road Championship presented by AMSOIL for The Showdown in Charlotte featuring two exciting evenings of action at the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway August 19 and 20.

Stadium SUPER Trucks stars including Robby Gordon, Sheldon Creed, Matt Brabham, and Paul Morris are joined by likes of TORC Series drivers CJ Greaves, Keegan Kincaid, and Luke Johnson for a spectacular double bill that promises two action-packed evenings of racing.

With now a global fan base, it will be a special weekend showcasing our trucks in front of the many suppliers, sponsors, and family members who continue to support SST into one of the fastest growing forms of entertainment today,” stated Stadium SUPER Trucks President Robby Gordon.

In the exciting return to the dirt for majority of the Stadium SUPER Trucks drivers, the TORC Series course design team will build out Charlotte Motor Speedway’s dirt oval into a challenging truck racing course featuring big jumps and banked turns. With a quick-change of the course between PRO 2WD and PRO 4WD racing will see additional features introduced for the Stadium SUPER Trucks, including a cross-over jump, and the addition of a 36 in. tall aluminum ramp on top of the existing table top used to give the lightweight trucks additional height and distance.

After fourteen of twenty-three rounds on the 2016 Stadium SUPER Trucks World Championship schedule Sheldon Creed leads TRAXXAS teammate Matt Brabham by 48 points. In role reversal Matt Brabham leads Sheldon Creed in the North America standings by seven points.

Ultra Talented Field of Stadium SUPER Trucks to Race at Honda Indy Toronto

Toronto, Ontario, Canada (July 15, 2016) – Returning back to North America from a successful 3-race weekend just one week prior in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. An ultra talented field of 12 SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS drivers will invade the 1.755 mi (2.824 km) temporary street course of the Honda Indy Toronto for 2 races of high flying action Saturday and Sunday.

The SST Honda Indy Toronto race weekend will feature 6 World Championship contenders, the return of some old faces, and two new competitors who look to make their first ever attempt behind the wheel of the fastest growing motorsport that is taking the world by storm.

Returning back to the SST racing since 2014, quite possibly the most famous Canadian racer, and 2003 CART/Champ Car Series Champion Paul Tracy, a native of Scarborough, Ontario will make his third attempt in a Stadium SUPER Truck with all of his previous starts coming in front of his hometown Toronto fans. Capturing three victories previously on the Exhibition Place course in 24 starts, Tracy will use his aggressive driving style and track experience to lead the No. 30 Royal Purple Synthetic Oil truck to the front.

Also joining Tracy on the streets of Toronto will be veteran road course racer Max Papis. Hailing from Como, Italy; Papis will use his extensive CART/Champ Car and NASCAR experience to make his first ever start in the identically prepared 650-hp trucks. Driving the SafeCraft Safety Equipment No. 9 there is no doubt that Papis will quickly adapt to unique form of racing the Stadium SUPER Trucks offer sliding through corners and hitting four strategically positioned ramps along the circuit.

Sara Price, a successful multi-championship Professional Motocross and UTV racer from Southern California will make SST history this weekend on the streets of Toronto becoming the first woman to compete in the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS race. Sara held a successful test session back in July, and much like Papis will adapt quickly to the extreme driving conditions of the SST trucks, and will not have any fear mixing up her BitTorrent No.78 truck up with guys.

Making his first North American SST start, 2016 Dakar 2-Wheel champion Toby Price of Singleton, New South Wales, Australia will take a break from his current Dakar training to get back behind the wheel of a SST truck, driving the SafeCraft Saftey Equipment No. 87. Coming off a successful runner-up finish at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, South Australia back in March, Price will look to have two more opportunities to get back on the podium.

Capturing 3 wins in 29 starts, Scottsdale, Ariz. driver P.J. Jones returns back to drive an SST truck. Jones last competed at the 2015 season finale at the Olympic Park Street Circuit in Homebush, New South Wales, Australia. Joining the United Fiber and Data 3-truck team for his first race of 2016, Jones a former 24 Hours of Daytona winner and experienced NASACR veteran whom has driven in the SST series since the exception in 2013 is always a threat to win with seventeen top five finishes to his credit.

Russell Boyle, a native Toronto teenager whom has shown success on karting tracks all over Canada, and United States will join the SST field at the Honda Toronto Indy for the second straight year. Boyle whom didn’t get many competitive laps in last years SST debut will look to grab a pair of respective finishes against a very talent field of competitors.

As the super talented group of infrequent SST competitors look to challenge the SST regulars, the race for the 2016 World Championship has not slowed down with an extremely good battle for the points lead brewing with 2015 SST Champion Sheldon Creed of Alpine, Calif. in his familiar red TRAXXAS truck just 48 points ahead of TRAXXAS teammate and 2016 Indianapolis 500 participant Matt Brabham of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia going into Round 13 on Saturday. Creed a four-time winner at Toronto will look to extent his points lead on Brabham, at the very track he gained his first ever SST victory back in 2013.

Off-Road veteran and SST founder Robby Gordon of Orange, Calif. whom always is a threat for a win in anything he is driving will look to continue the positive momentum of his win from last weekends Round 11 in Townsville as he looks to put the bright green Arctic Cat/Toyo Tires/ SPEED Energy No. 7 back in podium contention.
