Sheldon Creed Wins Stadium SUPER Trucks Round 6 at the Grand Prix of Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 16, 2016) – Sheldon Creed of Alpine, Calif. managed to avoid the carnage in the first half of the race, and work past early leader Matt Brabham on Lap-5 to his earn his fourth SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS victory of the 2016 World Championship.

Surfers Paradise, QLD, Australia driver Matt Brabham driving the United Fiber and Data No. 83 would start on the pole position and bolt out to a early lead putting distance on the 11 other TRAXXAS trucks by the second lap.

However, Creed was also on mission working his way through the field from his eleventh starting position all the way into the second spot behind Brabham by Lap-2.

While fellow Californian Tyler McQuarrie of Walnut Creek, Calif., driving his SafeCraft Saftey Equipment truck put on a show for the capacity crowd that lined the 11-turn 1.968 mi temporary street circuit as he would barrel roll his No. 6 off the front stretch ramp running in the third position.

In Stadium SUPER Trucks fashion, McQuarrie would proceed to land on his wheels, work his way to the pits to change a flat tire, and still mange to keep his truck in contention for the win.

The caution would fly over the track on Lap-3, McQuarrie would use that caution to his advantage as he rejoined the field and began his quest back to the front of the field.

As leader Brabham and Creed battled for the lead, McQuarrie would avoid multiple spun trucks as he worked his way back into the top-5 by Lap-6. Brabham would make a mistake bicycling his No. 83 around a corner giving Creed the opportunity to pass him. A spinning Paul Morris with two laps to go would put McQuarrie back into the third position

The battle for second was fierce, however no one was going to catch the 18-year old Alpine, Calif., native as he drifted corners smoking his Toyo Open Country A/T II tires the last few laps much to the delight of the roaring crowd en route to his 17 win of his SST career.

Brabham would hold off McQuarrie to finish in the second position. McQuarrie would claim his third consecutive third place finish in all three North American events in 2016.

Paul Morris of Norwell, QLD, Australia driving the United Fiber & Data/ LIVE truck No. 67 would finish his second consecutive race in the fourth position driving a smart race and keeping his truck clean the entire 12-laps.

Dustin Scott of Inver Grove Heights, Minn. would show strong signs of competing for a podium early in the event keeping up with the quick pace of Creed, Brabham, and McQuarrie, but would find trouble in the final corner of Lap-2 spinning his SPEED Energy/ Cobra Transportation backed entry ultimately loosing multiple positions and having to work his way back through field. Scott would go on to finish the event in the fifth position.

Making his return to Stadium SUPER Truck competition after a year hiatus Erik Davis of Burbank, Calif. driving the Always Evolving/ AERNow No. 75 would survive a near roll over to finish in the sixth spot ahead of Pleasant Hill, Calif. driver Pat O’Keefe in his SafeCraft Safety Equipment No. 14.

Davey Hamilton of Nampa, Idaho in his return to SST racing would struggle getting caught up in multiple altercations in the 12-lap event, but would survive the carnage to finish the race eighth.

United Fiber and Data/ LIVE driver Bill Hynes of Nazareth, Penn., would go on to finish the twelve-lap event in the ninth position ahead of SST newcomer Khaled Al Mudhaf of Kuwait City, Kuwait driving the G-Force Auto Worx/ Kuwait Combat Athletics No. 888 truck.

Robby Gordon of Orange, Calif., would experience a broken lower-left control arm after making contact with Creed on Lap-4 and collecting five competitors behind him. Gordon would retire his Arctic Cat Wildcat/ Toyo Tires/ TRAXXAS No. 7 early and would be credited with the eleventh position.

Crandon, Wisc., driver Keegan Kincaid would get the worst damage of the early Gordon spin severing a water line, and leaking out all of the water in the cooling system. Kincaid would get towed off the track and would be scored in the twelfth position.

Hawk Performance Named Official Brake Pad of SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 14, 2016) – SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks announced today it has joined forces with a familiar name in aftermarket motorsports parts, officially commencing an alliance with Hawk Performance as their Official Brake Pad partner.

“We put the Hawk Performance DTC-50 brake pads to the test in Australia last week in the opening round of Stadium SUPER Trucks. With the increased talent behind the wheel, temperatures exceeding 100 degrees, and a capacity crowd exceeding 80,000 people each day, we needed the best brakes and guaranteed zero fade,” said series founder, Robby Gordon. “The DTC-50 was game-changing for our drivers and fans, allowing us to race flag-to-flag without ever letting up on either pedal.”

“The Stadium SUPER Trucks are now racing on our latest racing compound, Hawk Performance DTC-50,” confirmed Hawk Performance Managing Director, Todd Romano. “This compound was developed from our original Champ Car Compound, and has proven to love both the extreme cold and hot use that road course and desert racing puts on brake pads.”

Recognizing the tremendous advantage of partnering with a veteran in the friction brake parts arena, Gordon noted, “I have made a career of having the best technology on my race cars. More often than not, we have had to create that in-house, and spend countless hours manufacturing our own custom solutions. Hawk Performance is able to give us the best technology right out of the box.”

“We continue to look for exciting partners in racing,” added Romano. “We have seen great value in our IndyCar program with Team Penske over the past three years, and to now put Hawk Performance on Stadium SUPER Trucks, racing on the same road courses and in front of the same fans, elevates our brand and its proving grounds to an entirely new level.”

Keegan Kincaid Wins Race #2 At The Grand Prix Of St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 13, 2016) – Keegan Kincaid captured the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS race No. 2 at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Sunday, upstaging what was an amazing first race that took place Saturday.

The off-road racing specialist from Crandon, Wisc., led nearly the entire 8-lap race after inheriting the lead from SST newcomer Pleasant Hill, Calif., driver Pat O’Keefe on lap three.

Immediately following Kincaid to the front was yesterday’s podium finishers of Sheldon Creed of Alpine, Calif., and Tyler McQuarrie of Walnut Creek, Calif., as a tremendous three-car battle for the lead errupted.

After the competition caution flew Creed would drag race Kincaid on the restart into the first turn, briefly holding the lead. As the two teammates bumped and beat each other around the 14-turn 1.8 mi (2.9 km) temporary street circuit as McQuarrie would attempt to set them both up to be in position to make a pass for the lead. As the fight for the lead was heavy ninth place starter Matt Brabham in the United Fiber and Data No. 83 would work his way within a truck length of McQuarrie looking to join the fight.

As the two TRAXXAS trucks would start to pull away from McQuarrie and Brabham. The attention turned to the battle between the Saftecraft Safety Systems No. 6 and UFD/ Think Loud Investments No. 83, as the two would trade position corner after corner fighting hard for the third spot in a repeat of Saturday’s race.

Brabham would slip by McQuarrie, and look to set up a pass on Creed who missed his mark creating an opportunity for Brabham to use that to his advantage by driving the truck in hard and make the pass. But Brabham would loose the handle on his truck with the erratic maneuver spinning and loosing multiple positions taking him out of any contention of capturing a victory.

Kincaid go on to capture the victory over Creed, and McQuarrie who both visited the podium for the second straight day.

Norwell, Queensland, Australia driver Paul Morris would rebound his truck from mechanical issues the day before to get the United Fiber & Data backed entry to finish fourth, while fellow Queensland, Australia racer and UFD teammate Matt Brabham would gather himself back after his spin to round out the top five.

Making his first ever start this weekend in a Stadium SUPER Truck competition Dustin Scott of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., driving the Cobra Transportation Services No. 20 kept up with the pace of the lead pack for majority of the day until Brabham would steal a top-five finish away on the last lap.

United Fiber and Data/ LIVE driver Bill Hynes of Nazareth, Penn. would go on to finish the eight lap event in the seventh position ahead of SST newcomer Pat O’Keefe of Pleasant Hill, Calif., drive the SafeCraft Saftey Equipment TRAXXAS truck. Robby Gordon would experience a broken axle on Lap-6 and would limp his Arctic Cat Wildcat/ Toyo Tires/ TRAXXAS No. 7 home across the line in ninth. Augie Lerch of Tucson, Ariz. would also experience a broken axle early in the event taking the Royal Purple Synthetic Oil entry out of competition.

The overall standings over the two races would see Sheldon Creed capture the overall victory with his win on Saturday and runner-up performance on Sunday, Keegan Kincaid would claim second, and Tyler McQuarrie in the third spot.

The Stadium Super Trucks will move west for the Long Beach Grand Prix April 16-17 for rounds six and seven of the season-long SST World Championship. Creed and Jenner took rounds one through three respectively in Adelaide, Australia at the beginning of February in front of a capacity crowd of more than 200,000 enthusiastic Australians in attendance.

Augie Lerch of Tucson, Ariz., would show strong signs of competing for the win, battling for the lead early in the event with the quick pace McQuarrie and Brabham, but would spin his Royal Purple Synthetic Oil backed entry on Lap-7 loosing multiple positions and finishing in seventh.

Making his first Stadium SUPER Trucks start, and first ever race on asphalt Inver Grove Heights, Minn., driver Dustin Scott would run the Cobra Transportation Services No. 20 in third spot for three laps running a consistent conservative pace prior to spinning on his own. Scott would regroup at the half way caution to finish his first SST race in the eighth position.

The side-by-side battle between Brabham and McQuarrie was one for record books as it brought the already enthusiastic crowd to its feet, as many of the fans have never experienced the flying trucks in person. ADELAIDE, South Australia (March 6, 2016) – 2015 SST Champion Sheldon Creed captured his second SPEED Energy Stadium Super Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS win of the 2016 season in convincing fashion Sunday in the finale of the Toyo Tires SST Clipsal 500 on the temporary street circuit in Victoria Park Adelaide in front of a announced crowd of 83,000 Australian motorsports fans.

Meaning the two ultra competitive drivers would put on a show starting the 8-lap event from the last row.

From the drop of the green flag the weekend struggles for Australian stuntman turned racer continued, as Matt Mingay would start from the first position after crashing his Hot Wheels/ Castrol EDGE backed truck hard on Saturday afternoon. Mingay would lead the first lap but quickly surrendered the lead position to Los Angeles, Calif. racer Burt Jenner. Sixth place starter Toby Price of Aberglasslyn, New South Whales would work his way to the second position behind Jenner on Lap-6 before contact with fellow Australian Matt Mingay would spin the both of them. Price would be credited with the seventh position, while Mingay’s horrific weekend would continue with him finishing in the eighth spot.

Paul Morris from Norwell, Queensland driving the SuperCheap Auto truck finished ninth, while Nazareth, Penn. driver Bill Hynes piloting the No. 57 United Fiber & Data / LIVE/ Think Loud Development truck rounded out the top ten.

11th Place Finish For Robby Gordon In Stage 11

SAN JUAN, Argentina (January 14, 2016) – Robby Gordon and Kellon Walch survived another very difficult special on Thursday, during Stage 11 of the 38th Annual Dakar Rally. Navigating the specially built HST Gordini Supercar through complex portions of heavy sand, high-speed gravel roads, and dust the duo safely reached the stage finish in the eleventh position.

Starting the challenging stage in the fifteenth position, Gordon raced out to a blistering pace tearing through the bumps and dust to advance comfortably into the ninth position by km 100.

“The course started rough, almost like whoops, and it really favored the Gordini with the big Toyo Tires on it,” explained navigator Kellon Walch. “Then we started to get into the bottom of river beds and the route was faster and smoother.”

Flirting with the top ten throughout the special Gordon kept a consistent pace of the leaders, not taking any risks of damaging the Toyo Tires/TRAXXAS Gordini. As any experienced Dakar racer knows taking the checkered flag in Rosario on Saturday to finish the 13-stage race is just as important and claiming a stage victory.

Gordon finished the stage in the eleventh position, with a time of 5 hours, 11 minutes, and 54 seconds. Only 22 minutes, and 38 seconds behind defending Dakar Rally Champion Nasser Al-Attiyah of Qatar, whom claimed his second stage win of 2016, finishing Stage 11 in a time of 4 hours, 49 minutes, 16 seconds.

Early overall leader Sebastien Loeb claimed the second spot with a time of 4 hours, 55 minutes, 08 seconds. While Mikko Hirvonen of Finland rounded out the podium with a time of 4 hours, 56 minutes, and 17 seconds. Frenchman Stephan Peterhansel was credited with fourth in a time of 4 hours, 57 minutes, 21 seconds, with Saudi Arabia driver Yazeed Alrajhi would claim his second top-five of the rally with a time of 5 hours, 1 minute, and 13 seconds.

After eleven grueling stages of the 2016 Dakar Rally, Peterhansel holds the overall lead over second place Al-Attiyah by 51 minutes, and 55 seconds. While South African Ginel De Villers claim’s the third position 1 hour, 17 minutes, 24 seconds back, followed by Hirvonen in the fourth position 1 hour, 22 minutes, 47 seconds behind. LeeRoy Poulter rounds out the top five with a time of 1 hour, 33 minutes, 58 seconds.

Robby Gordon’s eleventh place finish today moves into the twenty-seventh position in the overall standings 10 hours, 38 minutes, and 55 seconds behind the winning pace of Peterhansel.

Friday the cars will race from San Juan to Villa Carlos Paz in Stage 12. The longest stage of rally (900 km) will start with an exceptionally long liaison, which despite the slower speeds, will still put additional stress on the already strained race engines and drivers. The first transfer section is followed by the 481-kilometer timed race through the semi-mountainous terrain, lined with vegetation on both sides of the course making it super tight in locations.
