Sheldon Creed Double’s Down in Las Vegas Capturing the 2015 Championship and SST Season Finale

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (November 5, 2015) – Sheldon Creed drove his TRAXXAS truck to victory over Robby Gordon in the season finale of the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS race Thursday night, as the standing room only crowd cheered in excitement.

Transformed overnight the Thursday event adjacent to the bright lights of the Las Vegas strip, featured two unique divisions of off-road racing. The Arctic Cat Wildcat Stadium Side x Sides, and the main attraction Stadium SUPER Trucks.

The Las Vegas victory was the 18-year-old Creed’s ninth of the season. After breaking an axle in the heat race the Alpine, Calif. off-road prodigy would blast out to the early lead from his second starting position and would never look back. By strategically taking the joker lap later in race segment Creed would be able to put sizable lead on the hard charging Arctic Cat/ Toyo Tires driver of Robby Gordon whom ran out of laps as he tried to catch the ultra quick Creed and settled for second position in the 12-lap main event.

Scotty Steele from Peoria, Arizona would overcome his hood blown up in his line of vision for majority of the race to navigate the LIVE/Think Loud Recordings/ Think Loud Advisors truck around the twisty and fast paced circuit to well earned third place finish.

NASCAR Europe standout Anthony Gandon, from Bayonne, France making his first SST start drove a smooth and clean race to finish with a respectable fourth place finish in the Red Style!/ Carrosserie Ayensa truck. Rounding out the top five was famed Gold Coast, Australia Stuntman turned SST driver Matt Mingay, driving for Team LIVE/Think Loud Recordings/United Fiber and Data.

Gandon and Mingay whom both traveled thousands of miles to participate in the SST Las Vegas event both displayed huge smiles after the checkered flag flew.

“I have driven many forms of racecars, and been to many events around the globe, but these SST trucks and the event Robby Gordon and staff put on is like nothing I have ever experienced before, the chaos on track and pure entertainment for the fans is one of a kind,” stated the young Frenchmen.

The most intense battle on the track however took place between Austin, Texas driver Charles Dorrance in the Sportsman’s Finest truck and Nazareth, Penn., driver Bill Hynes in the LIVE/Think Loud Recordings/Think Loud Advisors SST. The two drivers battled hard lap after lap the entire 12-circuits, even colliding with one another and coming to a halt prior to the cross over jump on one instance. The two drivers who have battled hard with each other all year did not make the Las Vegas event an exception. Dorrance went on to finish ahead of Hynes in the sixth position, while Hynes claimed seventh.

Making his return to an SST truck since X Games Austin in 2014, Manhattan Beach, Calif. competitor Greg Adler in the Toyo Tires/ 4 Wheel Parts truck would incur some damage after sliding into the cross over under and would ultimately finish the race in eighth spot with a beaten and battered truck body.

Crandon, Wisc. driver Keegan Kincaid would encounter a broken axle after the competition caution and would not finish. His TRAXXAS truck would go on to be credited in the ninth position. Los Angeles, Calif. driver Burt Jenner in his Gladiator Tires truck would also encounter a broken axle and would be credited with the tenth.

Creed with his SST victory would go on to clinch the 2015 SST Championship ahead of Robby Gordon by merely single digits. All year long Creed and Gordon battled back and forth on the track and in the point’s standings swapping positions multiple times. Creed’s great runs in Australia the last two weeks, where Gordon got mixed up in trouble set Creed up for the opportunity to come out ahead in Las Vegas. Creed would go on to capture his first SST Championship and the first Championship for Team TRAXXAS.

Gordon would finish the points standing in the second position, while Creed’s teammate Keegan Kincaid would finish in the third position, followed by Gladiator Tire pilot Burt Jenner in the fourth position.

Joining the SST trucks as a support category for the second time in 2015 was the ultra popular Arctic Cat Wildcat Stadium Side x Sides. Just like their big brother the SST’s the Wildcats are identically prepared, and put the drivers up against one another with pure driving talent. SST drivers took the reigns of the Wildcat’s this night and just like in the SST race Sheldon Creed and Robby Gordon broke out to the early lead and would go on to finish that way three wheeling and sliding thru the corners truely displaying the power and capability of the Wildcat suspension.

The SST race from the Las Vegas Village in Las Vegas will be shown on CBSSN November 18 at 9 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT with a re-air on November 22.

As the 2015 North American SST season has come to an end, the season will continue with a non points race at the Coates Hire Sydney 500 December 4-6 in Sydney, NSW, Australia. SST will once again begin its 2016 season at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, Australia March 3-6 followed by a full slate of races globally, a complete schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.

Sheldon Creed Takes Final 2014 SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS Race

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Nov. 6, 2014)- Sheldon Creed drove his TRAXXAS truck to victory over Robby Gordon in the season finale of the SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS race at the sold out MGM Resorts Village along the Las Vegas Strip.

The race, which was sponsored by Las Vegas Events, featured three segments of eight laps in the final race, with Gordon and Creed fighting nose to tail trading the lead regularly throughout the event. RPM Off Road driver and X Games Austin winner Apdaly Lopez drove a steady race and navigated through traffic on the tight circuit to finish third.

Keegan Kincaid, who drove a second TRAXXAS truck, finished fourth with 15-year-old Gavin Harlien rounding out the top five.

The Las Vegas victory was the 16-year-old Creed’s third of the season. Two roll-overs had the crowd gasping, the first of which involved Dave Royce whose Criterion Cars truck clipped the front stretch wall causing the veteran driver to roll onto his roof, and later, Royce again was involved in an incident, this time with Travis Pecoy who ended up on his roof after sliding off the side of the massive cross-over jump in the middle of course.

SST will begin its 2015 season at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, Australia Feb. 27-March 1 and follow that with a full slate of races with a schedule that will be announced in the coming weeks.

The SST race from MGM in Las Vegas can be seen on NBCSN Nov. 21 at 12:30 a.m. ET and 9:30 p.m.PT and (Nov. 20).

Robby Gordon Wins First of Two Races At MGM In Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Nov. 1, 2014)- Robby Gordon capitalized on an uncharacteristic mistake by IndyCar veteran E.J. Viso and won Saturday’s SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS race at the MGM Resorts Village. The same Stadium Super Trucks will conclude their 2014 season Thursday night at the MGM Resorts Village at 8 p.m.

Gordon held off an aggressive run by TRAXXAS driver Keegan Kincaid who took a spot on an SST podium for the third consecutive race. Burt Jenner in the Gladiator/House Beer truck came home third marking the first podium finish in his SST career.

“I had my sights set on E.J. Viso and Keegan who were running great races right in front of me,” said SPEED Energy driver Gordon when asked if he saw the great racing in his rear view mirror. “E.J. was running a great race and he clipped the K-Rail there a little bit – actually he clobbered it – and we capitalized. Viso’s contact forced the LIVE driver behind the wall.

“I really can’t wait until Thursday when we run our final race here in Las Vegas. It’s going to a great night with the SEMA Show in town and all the great Las Vegas race fans here for what will be the main event. If tonight is any indication Thursday night’s racing is going to epic.”

Crandon, Wisconsin’s Kincaid, who is a second generation dirt racing expert, ran the mostly asphalt circuit like a pavement expert. “I’m getting more and more comfortable and better on asphalt and I’m learning. I can’t wait to come back Thursday and put it on top of the podium.”

Jenner celebrated his first podium finish after many near misses throughout the season.

“I’m 36 years old and since was about five years old I have waited for this,” Jenner said. “I always felt I could hang with these guys and this proves it. I have in my pocket now and you can’t take it away from me. Hopefully this is the start of good things to come.”

The race course at MGM Resorts Village made for fantastic racing with wide sweeping turns and a jump that allows the high-flying truck to cross over opposing lanes of traffic directly in the middle of the circuit. Saturday’s completion among 10 drivers was as intense as any event in 2014 and Thursday night’s races will likely follow the same pattern.

“Racing in Las Vegas is one of the coolest things we get to do all season,” series promoter and founder Gordon said. “The course we have built at MGM is amazing and next week we will make it even better and with the SEMA Show in town the crowd will be electric. Being able to race in front of the off-road community and knowledgeable Las Vegas fans is a great way for us to finish our season.

PJ Jones Rolls To Victory In Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nev. (November 8, 2013) – The final race of the 2013 Inaugural Season of SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks would see the high-powered formula off-road vehicles tackle the temporary constructed asphalt course at Caesars Palace under the lights of Las Vegas, just steps away from the famous Las Vegas strip.

The day would begin with SST’s taking to the track for morning and afternoon practice sessions, before clocking a best of 2-laps qualifying run. Keegan Kincaid of Crandon, Wisc., driving the Traxxas sponsored No. 47 for Mike Jenkins laid down the quickest lap with a 23.436. Robby Gordon would qualify in the second position with a 23.558, and Jerrett Brooks qualifying third with a 24.043.

Friday night’s SST final would see P.J. Jones and Rob MacCachren pace the 30-lap SST final to green. The races original start would be called back as Arie Luyendyk Jr. would charge into Scotty Steele’s truck in turn 2, as the trucks became lodged together the red flag came out. After a complete restart Jones would lead lap-1 followed by MacCachren and Brooks.

The next 5 laps the top three would remain the same as Jones extented his lead to nearly four truck lengths ahead of MacCachren. On Lap-8, Brooks would miss his mark in turn 2 allowing Gordon to slip by into the third position.

On Lap-15 mechanical failure would strike multiple trucks, including championship points leader MacCachren would slow on the front stretch ending his run in the second position. At nearly the same time, Gordon and Sheldon Creed would also encounter mechanical woes.

Creed would retire the No. 74 Magnaflow entry early while MacCachren and Gordon would return to the race for valuable championship points.

Restarting in the fifth position Gordon did not waste any time moving back into the top 3. The front runners would consist of Jones, Brooks, and Gordon for the next 7 laps until Brooks would encounter a mechanical issue allowing Gordon to overtake the second position. Brooks would lose several positions before eventually dropping out of competition, allowing youngster Scotty Steele to move into the podium contention.

In hot pursuit of Jones for the remaining circuits Gordon’s quest for his fourth win of 2013 would evaporate as Jones, would go on to capture his first ever SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks win. Gordon would cross the finish line in second while Steele would earn his first SST podium finish.

With MacCachren encountering mechanical issues late in the SST final, Gordon would go on to clinch the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks inaugural season points championship by just 7 points.

SST On The Strip At Caesars Palace

Charlotte, N.C. (October 18, 2013) – Caesars Palace Las Vegas has hosted some of the greatest entertainment acts in the world – from Evel Knievel, to Frank Sinatra and Celine Dion, to the Formula One World Championship events in 1981 and 1982. On Thursday, November 7, 2013, taking part simultaneously with the automotive industry’s premier trade show, SEMA, Las Vegas history will once again be made as the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks™ event (SST) makes its way to Caesars Palace on the Las Vegas Strip.

Due to overwhelming interest, and to best accommodate the race teams and fans, Caesars Palace executives and SST officials have changed the date from the previously scheduled Thursday, November 7th, to Friday, November 8th.

The race track for this special one-day only event will be constructed in front of Caesars Palace. High-flying SST trucks will propel past The Colosseum and through the Caesars Palace marquee. Fans will be thoroughly entertained as the high horse-powered SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks battle door-to-door, drifting around the seven-turn asphalt racecourse and flying over specially constructed metal ramps. This event is open to the public. Tickets can purchased onsite at the Caesars Palace Colosseum Box Office or in advance at https://stadiumsupertrucks.com.

An event at Caesars has long been a vision of series President, Robby Gordon. The unique form of racing that SST offers was immensely popular more than 20 years ago – known then as the Mickey Thompson Off-Road Championship – and fittingly Gordon, one of the world’s greatest off-road racers, has brought it back to life.

“Bringing SST to Caesars during SEMA Show week, the world’s most premier automotive specialty products trade event,is something unheard of,” said Gordon. “We would like to thank everyone at Caesars Palace and The Forum Shops at Caesars for giving us the opportunity to present a race like this. Getting to race SST trucks on this property is something phenomenal.”

“Through the years Caesars Palace has always set the standard and continually raised the bar on the Las Vegas Strip,” said Caesars Palace Regional President Gary Selesner. “An event like this is special because it pays homage to the historical attention-grabbing events that Caesars Palace is known for – like Evel Knievel and the Formula One races, yet also brings forth a new element of exciting entertainment for our guests. We are thrilled to welcome SST with this monumental event and encourage locals and race fans alike to join in on the action.”

In addition to the SST lineup, USA Pro SuperMoto and Modified Trophy Karts will be competing with a full program of qualifying and main events.
