Toby Price, Greg Gartner join Stadium Super Trucks in Adelaide

Off-road racers Toby Price and Greg Gartner will contest the opening round of the Boost Mobile Stadium Super Truck Series at the Superloop Adelaide 500.

The pair have joined Team Australia alongside racing returnee Paul Weel, former Super2 Series regular Shae Davies, Toyota 86 front runner Luke Vanna, and Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 winner Paul Morris.

The Adelaide 500 round of the championship is the first of three Team Australia versus Team USA events this year.

While Price is more accustomed to two wheels, the two-time Dakar Rally winner isn’t unfamiliar with the Stadium Super Truck scene.

“I’m stoked to be back at Adelaide racing in the SSTs,” Price said.

“I have such a great time racing them every time I jump in them and get to take on those big jumps.

“I think Team Australia and Team USA will bring out some rivalries and I think we’ll see some really close racing. It should be fun!”

The drive at the Adelaide 500 comes between his FIM World Rally Championship and Trophy Truck Racing commitments in Europe and North America respectively.

Meanwhile, Gartner returns to the high flying truck racing championship after a brief hiatus. He last raced at the Adelaide 500 in 2017 and is looking forward to his return.

“I’m super excited to be a part of the Stadium Super Trucks in Adelaide, to be able to race these trucks against some of the biggest names in motorsport is fantastic,” he said.

“One of the biggest challenges for me is to change my driving style from the dirt to tar as most of my racing career has been in off-road racing and speedway.

“I wouldn’t be able to compete in this racing without my great sponsors, big and small, so thank you very much to everyone for their support.”

More drivers are to be confirmed with a little over a week until the new season gets underway.

The Boost Mobile Stadium Super Trucks play support to the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship at the Adelaide 500 on February 20-23.

2020 Stadium SUPER Trucks Tentative Schedule

Charlotte, NC (November 21, 2019)- SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks has announced its schedule for the 2020 season. It will feature a total of 20 rounds of action next year, visiting ten different tracks in three different countries.

For the fourth time in series history, the SuperLoop 500 in Adelaide, SA, Australia, will be included on the schedule in conjunction with the Virgin Australia Supercars opening round early in the SST season.

After a year absence, the trucks will be back in South Australia, and will feature drivers from both the United States and Australia in the first of three co-sanctioned events with the newly formed Boost Mobile Super Trucks.

The longest-running event on the Stadium SUPER Trucks schedule will also be back for the eighth consecutive year as the trucks take to the streets of Long Beach, Calif., April 17-19, for the 47th running of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

After a successful return to the Honda Indy Toronto in 2019, Canadian motorsports fans will revel in the thrills of STT being featured again on the NTT IndyCar Series weekend. On July 10-12, the streets of Toronto will showcase the excitement of SST racing for the sixth time.

Starting the stretch of four race weekends in a month, the trucks will the make a stop for a third time at Wisconsin’s Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis., August 7-8, in conjunction with the NASCAR Xfinity Series Henry 180.

After making two visits to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in 2019 with all kinds of wild racing action, the loyal fans of Ohio will be treated to a return trip of Stadium SUPER Trucks as part of The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio weekend, August 14-16.

The second of three events co-sanctioned with the Boost Mobile Super Trucks will see the American drivers head back to Australia, August 29-30, for a return to the Sydney Motorsport Park in Sydney, New South Wales, for a race under the lights. This will be the first time SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks will compete on a road course at night. The first appearance of SST at Sydney Motorsport Park was back in 2018 at an event with AMRS.

Returning to the Pacific Northwest for the second straight year, Portland International Raceway will be host to SST again along with the NTT IndyCar Series, September 4-6.

To close out the 2020 campaign, SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks will return to the Gold Coast to compete on the Streets of Surfers Paradise for the fourth time. A venue favorite of the series boasting large crowds and a picture perfect beachfront track provides the perfect scenario to crown the 2020 champion. Gold Coast will be the last of three events co-sanctioned with Boost Mobile Super Trucks.

New for 2020, Stadium SUPER Trucks in Australia has expanded to feature its own series schedule in conjunction with existing Virgin Australia SuperCar events under the banner of Boost Mobile Super Trucks.

The Australian campaign will kick off February 20-23 with the SuperLoop 500 in Adelaide, South Australia. The opening event of the Boost Mobile Super Trucks schedule will be co-sanctioned with SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks and will feature both drivers from the United States and Australia competing.

The next two events will feature new tracks for SST with Symmonds Plains Raceway in Launceston, Tasmania hosting an event, April 3-5. While a week later, the trucks will be loaded on a ship for the Pukekohe Raceway, April 24-26, and the first event in the country of New Zealand.

The remaining schedule will feature the Boost Mobile Super Trucks to return to venues that have hosted previously. Making a third appearance at the Barbagallo Racway in Perth, Western Australia, SST will take to the track, May 15-17, for the first of two night events on the schedule in 2020. Following Perth, the trucks will make the cross-country journey for the second appearance at the Townsville Street Circuit in Townsville, Queensland, June 26-28.

Traveling to the north for the second time in the trucks history, the Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin, Northern Territory, will be part of all the action, July 17-19.

For the second co-sanctioned event with the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks, the drivers from the North American series will join the Australians for a twilight shootout, August 28-30, at the Sydney Motorsports Park in Sydney, New South Whales.

The closing event in the Inaugural Boost Mobile Super Trucks season will see the high-flying trucks return to the streets of Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. Similar to Adelaide and Sydney, both drivers from Boost Mobile Super Trucks and SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks will be in action for the final event in both series. Two champions will be crowned the weekend of October 30-November 1.

SUPER TRUCKS TO RETURN TO THE GOLD COAST IN OCTOBER

The Boost Mobile SUPER Trucks return to Australia for the 2019 Vodafone Gold Coast 600, October 25-27. With the announcement fresh of the press that CAMS have given Stadium Super Trucks the all clear to race again in Australia, Supercars and SST Australia have put ink to paper.

The Boost Mobile Super Trucks have been a crowd sensation in Australia since first racing at the Clipsal 500 back in 2015, which resulted in one of the biggest attendances in history at the multi-award-winning event.

Boost Mobile Founder Peter Adderton who has been supporting Nathan Cayzer and the comeback mission from behind the scenes, is excited about the future of what he feels is one of the best forms of motorsport in the world.

“Robby Gordon has created a great package over the years, he knows it’s about entertainment and value for the fans,” Adderton said.

“Boost Mobile wanted to help Robby bring back Stadium Super Trucks to Australia, we love the entertainment, the racing, the noise, the future potential growth of this category and that it’s about the fans all across Australia.

The stadium trucks have grown a massive following around the world, capturing the imagination of millions as an adrenaline pumping spectacle as these 600hp beasts fly through the air.

“I have built so many amazing memories since our first time here in Australia so to be able to have all things sorted with CAMS to be able to get back to Gold Coast one of the very best street tracks in the world and the way that Gold Coast turns it on is incredible” said Robby Gordon, who has raced in Indy Car and Stadium Super Trucks on the streets of Surfers Paradise.

“It’s been an incredibly tough 16 months not being able to race in Australia but I’m thankful to Eugene Arocca and CAMS for their efforts in making this possible for SST to be back racing in Australia and Sean Seamer and Supercars for welcoming SST back to be part of the brilliant series they run.”

Nathan Cayzer, whom has been an instrumental piece in bringing the series back to the shores of Australia and bringing SST to the Clipsal 500 in 2015, will head up all discussions around events and commercial partnerships in Australia. “It is super exciting to be able to have SST return back to racing in Australia and even better that we have been able to be back with the incredible series it is in Supercars,” Cayzer said.

“An enormous amount of work has gone on behind the scenes for both parties to get to this point.

Robby Gordon Wins Mid-Ohio Race 1

Lexington, Ohio (August 10, 2019) – Returning back to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the second time in three weeks Robby Gordon would withstand a contact filled Stadium SUPER Trucks Round No. 11 to capture his first SST win of 2019. First starter Bill Hynes of Nazareth, Pennsylvania would jump out to the early lead in his United Fiber & Data truck before Casey Mears of Scottsdale, Arizona driving the bright yellow SPEED Energy entry this weekend would quickly apply pressure and drive past into the lead.

As the field worked thru only two corners things quickly escalated as Scottsdale, Arizona driver Cole Potts would make contact with Inman Park, Georgia driver Ryan Eversley upon landing of the KMC Wheels jump. The contact would send Eversley and the Continental Tires truck sliding across the track into the Toyo Tires entry of Jeff Hoffman. The two trucks would slide off the track thru the grass into the sand pit where Eversley’s Continental Terrian Contact A/T tires would bite into the dirt causing the truck to roll over twice. Landing on the wheels in stuntman form Eversley would continue on with the race.

At the start of Lap-2 Mears would continue to increase a sizeable lead on the rest of the field as third starting Robby Gordon of Orange, California would move into the second position as fast qualifier and current Stadium SUPER Trucks points leader Matt Brabham of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia was right there banging on the door of the leaders looking to challenge for the top positions. Seventh starting Cole Potts of Scottsdale, Arizona driving the Security State Bank truck was also on the move as he followed Brabham to the front of the field before moving past him and setting his sights on Gordon for the second spot.

A caution would wave over the track on Lap-4 bunching the field back up for a restart.
Mears would quickly jump back out to the lead, as Potts would battle hard with Gordon for the second spot. The two drivers would trade the position multiple times until Potts would drift high into the grass and loose two positions.
The start of Lap-6 would see Gordon look to apply pressure to Mears for the lead. Going side by side off the KMC Wheels ramp Gordon would use all of the racing surface and more completely the pass on Mears. However, at this point of the race you could not count out the ultra fast truck of Potts as he was back in striking distance of the leaders, and quickly setting his sights on Gordon for the lead.

Going side-by-side with one another Gordon would out brake Potts for the position, but the young Arizona driver would look to bang doors with the off-road veteran the next corner. The contact between the two drivers would send Potts in a spin cycle loosing multiple positions. This would open the door for Phoenix, Arizona driver Jeff Hoffman at the start of Lap-8, Hoffman would battle his way back into contention after the mishap with Eversley on the first lap. The driver of the Toyo Tires truck would pull up along side Gordon for the lead and out brake him into the corner to over take the top position from the bright orange SPEED Energy truck.

As caution would wave over the field, Hoffman would prepare himself for a good restart with only three laps remaining, but Gordon would quickly have something to say about that looking to challenge Hoffman for the lead right away. Hoffman would miss his braking mark and drift wide into the grass allowing Gordon to go back to the lead.
Hanging on in the top four Brabham was doing all he could do to remain there as he would begin to encounter brake issues bouncing off every truck he could to point his truck in the right direction. As the truck became an extreme handful Brabham would drop back in the field and out of contention.

The last lap would see Potts go side by side with Gordon for the lead in the same exact fashion he did with Greg Biffle just two weeks ago. Out jumping Gordon off the KMC Wheels ramp Potts would power to the outside of Gordon for the lead. Gordon would battle back and make contact with Potts sending him into the grass. Potts would then decide to take a short cut cutting significant distance of the racecourse.

Gordon would go on to win his first race of the 2019 Stadium SUPER Trucks Championship, while capturing his twentieth win of his career. Mears would capture his first ever SST podium position in the second position, while Potts would right his truck to round out the top three. After the completion of the event USAC Officials would apply a penalty of one position to the No. 60 truck of Cole Potts for not getting back on the racecourse in the closest point where he went off track.

From flipping over on the first lap and battling thru the entire field avoiding the chaos all around him the Continental Tires truck of Ryan Eversley would wind up with his first Stadium SUPER Trucks podium as in the final run down after the penalty was applied to Potts. Hoffman crucial mistakes the last two laps would eliminate him from podium contention and loose lots of ground to the leaders. At the finish of the scheduled laps Hoffman would be scored in the fifth position.

As Brabham went from challenging for the win to just hanging on to his truck to remain on course as he would loose his brakes, and begin to become a bowling ball banging into any truck he can to get his turned in the right direction. As the checkered flag would fly Brabham would be credited with the sixth spot.

Gavin Harlien driving the VP Fuels & Lubricants truck would start from the fifth position but would encounter unfortunate luck once again at Mid-Ohio landing awkwardly off the first jump trying to avoid the spinning trucks in front of him. In the process Harlien would knock a belt off the motor causing the truck to limp around back to the pit lane. SST technicians would be able to put the belt back on and Harlien would be able to return to the track for the last segment and finish the race but would be scored in the seventh spot.

First starting Bill Hynes of Nazareth, Pennsylvania would quickly relinquish the lead to Casey Mears and fall in line behind him on Lap-1. Hanging strong in the top five the next lap before dropping back in the pack after missing his braking mark and running wide. Hynes would keep the United Fiber & Data truck clean and go on to finish the race in the eighth position.

SST Returns To Canada

Along with the release of Single Day tickets, Honda Indy Toronto is excited to announce the return of Robby Gordon’s Stadium SUPER Trucks to the weekend schedule. This is a fan favourite from the past that will certainly add to the thrills of the on track action for festival-goers. These high-flying trucks will race across jumps and power down the streets surrounding Exhibition Place once again.
