Stadium Super Trucks to make highly-anticipated return to the 2020 Superloop Adelaide 500
In an exciting development for fans, the 2020 Superloop Adelaide 500 will host the opening round of the Stadium Super Trucks (SST) series, following their highly-anticipated return to Australia.
The popular category was today confirmed as the first support category to race at the iconic Victoria Parklands street circuit from 20 – 23 February 2020, coinciding with the release of tickets on sale.
Renowned for its spectacular, adrenalin-charged action, the SST’s return to the Superloop Adelaide 500 is a major coup for fans, says the event’s General Manager, Alistair MacDonald.
“The Stadium Super Trucks have long been a fan favourite and we are excited to announce that they will headline the support category line-up for the 2020 Superloop Adelaide 500,” said Mr MacDonald.
“We are committed to putting on a show for race-goers, and as an international category the high-flying trucks will help the event maintain its status as one of the biggest events on the Australian motorsport calendar.
“The announcement coincides with the release of tickets on sale to the general public, so we are encouraging all fans to jump online and secure their seats for the 2020 event.”
The popular off-road racing series will see four days of action with two practice sessions confirmed for Thursday, followed by a qualifying session on Friday and a number of races across the weekend.
Created by former IndyCar and NASCAR racer Robby Gordon, the American series has raced at Australian events since 2015, before a hiatus in May 2018 due to safety concerns raised by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS).
“We have worked really hard to be able to have SST return back to racing in Australia under the CAMS banner, an enormous amount of work has gone on behind the scenes with CAMS and to now be able to race again is really exciting” Said SST representative Nathan Cayzer.
“We look forward to bringing the series back to Adelaide once again and showcasing our thrill-seeking sport in front of South Australians.”
Powered by a 600-hp Chevrolet LS V8 engine, the trucks weigh 1,300 kg and are built with a steel-tube frame and fiberglass body. All trucks feature a three-speed transmission, reaching speeds as high as 230 km/h.
The SST series requires that all SST trucks are identically prepared and delivered to drivers in race-ready condition, with race winners decided by driver skill rather than individual team engineering and budgets.
Current series champion Matthew Brabham is set to take to the grid in 2020 while Robby Gordon, and former Supercars driver Paul Morris are also set to line-up in Adelaide.

The 22nd edition of the iconic Superloop Adelaide 500 will host the season-opener of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, alongside a number of off-track entertainment and attraction for fans of all ages.
The popular ‘Tracks of the World’ precinct will return bigger and better to showcase some of the most famous motorsport tracks and culture from around the world, while three big nights of concerts will ignite the post-race activity with acts to be announced in coming months.

August 21, 2019 – CAMS and SST can confirm today it has executed a three-year commercial rights agreement with Robby Gordon and Stadium SUPER Trucks, paving the way for the high-flying trucks to return to Australia as early as October 2019.
“The leadership at CAMS has always wanted to see the Stadium SUPER Trucks in Australia, and we are pleased to say that all of our safety concerns and related issues have been fully addressed and resolved.”

“There’s never been any doubt about the truck’s popularity here in Australia, and after months of discussions we are pleased to say SST racing is able to resume under CAMS.”
Nathan Cayzer, whom was an instrumental piece in bringing the SST Series to Australia in 2015 will continue to head all discussions around events and commercial partnerships in Australia.

The Stadium SUPER Trucks return to Mid-Ohio August 9th & 10th
After a successful debut last month with Indy Car, the Stadium SUPER Trucks have been added to the weekend schedule at Mid-Ohio with the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
Race #1 will run on Friday, August 9th at 5:30pm/et.
Race #2 will run on Saturday, August 10th, approximately 30-45 minutes after the conclusion of the NASCAR Xfinity Series Race.

Lexington, Ohio (July 28, 2019) – Gavin Harlien raced to victory in SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Round No. 10 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Sunday after encountering a heart-breaking defeat Saturday as his truck would develop an issue while dominating the race at the midway point.
Holding the second ever race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Sunday fans whom lined the 13-turn prominent road course where on their feet the entire race in pure amazement with another thrilling SST race for the ages.
Pole Sitter Gavin Harlien of Mesa, Arizona driving the VP Racing Fuel/Lubricants truck would jump out to the early lead immediately from the drop of the green flag.
Fourth starting Jeff Hoffman of Phoenix, Arizona would drive past second starting Bill Hynes to slide into the second position at the start of Lap-2.
Current SST point leader Matt Brabham of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia however was the man on the move quickly moving up into the fourth position for his eighth starting spot, and looking to be in the mix of the leaders early in the race.
The restart of the second segment allowed Brabham and Hoffman battle hard for the second position, as the two would begin to push it harder with one another. Going side by side multiple times Hoffman would hold off the hard charging Brabham.
Stalking the Toyo Tire tracks of Hoffman, Brabham would use the draft to his advantage slinging past Hoffman for the second position at the start of Lap-9.
Meanwhile, Hoffman and Brabham would battle hard with one another Harlien was on cruise control out front until Brabham would gain his opportunity at the restart the third segment as he would line up directly on Harlien’s rear bumper.
Brabham would make many attempts to move past Harlien the final two circuits looking to move to the inside and outside, but each attempt denied as Harlien would hold him off as thousands of fans cheered loudly.
As the checkered flag waved Harlien would go on to capture his first SST victory of the season ahead of Brabham, and Hoffman who would round out the podium.
Runner-Up finisher in Saturday’s race Greg Biffle of Vancouver, Washington would start his fourth SST race from the fifth spot. Quickly moving forward Biffle would add extreme pressure for the second position by Lap-2. Driving the Continental Tire truck super aggressive Biffle would launch off the Continental Tire ramp and land sideways spinning the truck into the infield grass and backing the truck into the retaining wall.
Biffle would pull to the pit lane to have SST technicians look at the truck for damage. With only a bent rear bumper Biffle would continue the race. Running consistent laps without trouble Biffle would be able to make his plan to advance after the conclusion of the second segment. Biffle would hold a great side by side battle for Cole Potts for the fourth position as the two would go side by side for multiple corners. Coming to the finish line Biffle would sneak ahead of Potts in the finishing order.
Saturday’s race winner Cole Potts of Scottsdale, Arizona driving the Security State Bank truck would start Sunday’s race from the sixth position and quickly move forward by Lap-2. However, Potts would make contact with fellow Scottsdale native Arie Luyendyk Jr. Both trucks would slide into the grass losing multiple positions.
Remaining patient Potts would be able to work his way back into the fourth position by Lap-8 setting up a great battle for the third position after the second competition caution. Pott’s would look to duck to the inside of Hoffman multiple times for third, but Hoffman would slam the door closed sending Potts into the grass again as Biffle would look to challenge him for fourth. As the checked flag flew Biffle would over take Potts for the fourth position resulting in a fifth.
Coming to the starting grid Orange, California driver Robby Gordon sporting his familiar bright orange SPEED Energy livery this weekend would encounter truck issues on the sight in lap. After a few minutes adjustments on pit lane from the SST technicians Gordon would make the call to the grid at the last moment. Struggling the handling of the truck the entire race Gordon would only advance one positions from his seventh starting spot to finish sixth.
Outside front-row starter Bill Hynes of Nazareth, Pennsylvania driving the United Fiber and Data entry would drive a clean and cautious race on Sunday bringing the No. 57 across the finish line in the seventh place.
Third starting Arie Luyendyk Jr. of Scottsdale, Arizona driving the bright yellow SPEED Energy truck would make contact with Cole Potts on the Lap-2 sending both trucks sliding into the grass. Luyendyk Jr. would report the truck would develop a bad vibration. Luyendyk Jr. would nurse the No. 25 around the course the remainder of the event to ultimately finish in the eighth spot two laps behind.
The overall standings for the two races at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course would see Matt Brabham win the overall weekend points championship with a third place finish on Saturday, and a second place on Sunday. Jeff Hoffman would grab the second overall position with a fifth and third respectively. Saturday’s winner Cole Potts would round out the overall podium with a fourth place finish on Sunday.

Lexington, Ohio (July 27, 2019)- Cole Potts would out duel Greg Biffle with an incredible pass to the outside of the KMC Wheels ramp in the last segment to capture Stadium SUPER Trucks first ever event at the Mid-Ohio Sport Car Course.
Race pole sitter Bill Hynes of Nazareth, Pennsylvania would jump out to the early lead in his bright blue United Fiber & Data truck before Gavin Harlien of Mesa, Arizona driving the VP Racing Fuels & Lubricants entry would quickly apply pressure and drive past into the lead at the close of the first lap.
On the next lap Vancouver, Washington driver Greg Biffle making his third ever SST start would pull up along side Harlien, and battle him for the lead. As the two banged doors with one another Biffle would pull out front for a brief second but only for Harlien to battle back and regain the position. Biffle would slide wide into the grass and loose a position to Scottsdale, Arizona driver Arie Luyendyk Jr.
As Harlien would start to pull away from the field, the race for the second position started to heat up as Cole Potts would move the Security State Bank truck in the mix with Luyendyk and Biffle.
After the first competition caution on Biffle would work his way back close enough to battle Harlien for the lead. As the two once again would bang doors Harlien would develop a problem and drop back out of the mix. Biffle would inherit the lead for the next three laps as Potts would move past Luyendyk for the second position.
As the final competition caution would wave Potts would strike immediately working his way to the outside of the KMC Wheels ramp exiting the keyhole turn to catapult his truck into the lead past Biffle for the lead.
Potts would waste no time working his way out to the size able lead the final two circuits.
Friday’s fast qualifier and current Stadium SUPER Trucks points leader Matt Brabham of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia would start the race with a conservative approach for the first portion of the race from his eighth starting spot as he normally does, but this race proved to be a bit different for Brabham as he found himself in the fourth position after just four laps. After working past Luyendyk Jr. for the third position the driver of the Carlisle/Headstrong entry would need to hold off challenges from Robby Gordon the next several laps to remain in the third position as Potts and Biffle just were too fast for Brabham to track down.
Potts would go on to win his second SST race of the year ahead of Biffle and third finishing Brabham.
Second fastest in Friday qualifying Robby Gordon of Orange, California driving his familiar bright Orange SPEED Energy truck would lurk mid-pack for majority of the race letting things sort themselves out. After the second competition caution Gordon would make his move battling hard with Brabham and Hoffman for third. As the checkered flag flew over the field Gordon would finish behind Brabham in fourth.
Toyo Tires driver Jeff Hoffman of Phoenix, Arizona would encounter problems from the start of the race falling back from his sixth starting position. The driver whom was third fastest in qualifying would go off the track and fade to the back for first eight laps. Hoffman would look to make his move after the second competition caution ultimately finishing in the fifth spot.
Scottsdale, Arizona driver Arie Luyendyk Jr. driving the bright yellow SPEED Energy entry this weekend would immediately move his truck to the front of the field from his fifth starting position, and remain in the second spot for the first four laps. But as is the case in SST racing maintaining your equipment throughout the race is half the challenge, Luyendyk would over heat his brakes and begin to fade to the back of the pack. Luyendyk Jr. would be scored in the sixth position in his first SST race of the 2019 season.
After leading the majority of the first lap before being passed by Harlien, Bill Hynes would hang strong in the top five the next lap before dropping back in the pack after missing his braking mark and running wide. Hynes would go on to finish the race in the seventh position.
After leading majority of the race Harlien would develop a fuel pressure issue on Lap-6 as his trucks engine would start stumbling. Harlien would pull into the pit lane to see if the SST technicians could diagnose the problem. After having a great beginning to the race Harlien would complete the required amount of laps off the pace in the eighth position.
SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Race 2 will be contested Sunday afternoon at 12:35 P.M. local time prior to the start of the NTT IndyCar Series Honda Indy 200.
