Robby Gordon Wins Stadium SUPER Trucks Night 1 in Costa Mesa, California

Costa Mesa, California (September 16, 2016) – On a night where 11 Stadium SUPER Truck (SST) drivers returned to the series’ roots in Southern California, it was Robby Gordon who came out on top besting P.J. Jones at the OC Fair and Event Center Friday night.

The temporary race track the SST staff built adjacent to the world renown Sand Sports Super Show features various aspects of the 2016 SST World Championship season including sweeping high-speed turns, a difficult sand pit section, multiple tight corners, and a massive cross-over jump that sends competitors flying over another section of the race track with trucks passing directly underneath.

After a series of single truck qualifying runs and heat races, Friday’s 20-lap main event– which featured the entire field of SST’s on DOT approved Toyo Open Country A/T II tires saw TRAXXAS driver Matt Brabham from Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia jump out to the early lead after the land rush standing start. Brabham would remain in that position until getting pressure from Orange, California’s Robby Gordon whom muscled his way past truck after truck to the front of the field. Brabham would hold off the hard charging Gordon for multiple laps until Gordon would opt to take the joker lane late in the event and slip past Brabham by a near bumper.

The last lap would see Brabham trying hard to get back past Gordon, but would come up short as P.J. Jones substitute driving for Pat O’Keefe in the SafeCraft Safety Systems truck would quietly work his way into contention and make contact with Brabham moving him out of the way.
Gordon would go on to win the event ahead of Jones, and the third finishing Brabham.

Sara Price of Canyon Lake, Calif. racing in front of many hometown friends and family in the her United Fiber and Data/BitTorrent truck would remain patient throughout the event running her own race. A late race mishap by Arie Luyendyk Jr. would allow her to capitalize on the position. Price would go on to claim her best SST finish to date in the fourth position.

Back in the Royal Purple Synthetic Oil colors this weekend Arie Luyendyk Jr. of Scottsdale, Ariz. would run with the top four competitors majority of the race until contact with the retaining wall with four laps to go would allow Price to slip by. Luyenkdyk would be credited with the fifth position.

Norwell, Queensland, Australia driver Paul Morris would find trouble with six laps remaining putting his United Fiber & Data No. 67 truck on its roof thru the treacherous sand pit. In typical SST fashion track officials rolled the truck back over and Morris was able to continue the 20-lap event finishing in the sixth spot.

Short course ace Kyle LeDuc of Beaumont, Calif. driving the Toyo Tires/ 4 Wheel Parts truck would battle power steering issues all night. As the SST technicians would thrash to get it fixed for the final, Leduc would run Robby Gordon’s Arctic Cat/ Toyo Tires truck in the qualifying heat. Adapting quickly to the challenging course configuration of the Costa Mesa track in his own truck for the final Leduc would race to finish respectfully in the seventh position.

2016 SST World Championship points’ leader Sheldon Creed of Alpine, Calif. would quickly race out to the front of the pack and challenge for the lead but a broken axle would damper that effort suddenly. Looking to gain as many points as he possibly could Creed would limp his battered and bruised TRAXXAS truck to a eighth place finish.

Returning to the facility where he made his first SST start in 2014, Bill Hynes of Nazareth, Penn. would drive a consistent and smart race to finish the United Fiber & Data truck in the ninth position.

SuperKart driver Troy Diede of Lodi, Calif. making his first ever SST start held his ground early in the main event as he quickly raced out to the early lead from his first starting position. Laying down consistent laps Diede would find himself running in the top five for majority of the event until contact with P.J. Jones would spin him around losing valuable track time to the leaders. Staying out of trouble for the entire race Diede successfully finished his first SST race in the tenth position.

After having various scheduling conflicts the last few months Tyler McQuarrie of Walnut Creek, Calif. left off right where he did the last time he sat in his SafeCraft Saftey Systems Stadium SUPER Truck. The tight and narrow corners of the temporary Costa Mesa track suited the driving style of the professional drifter as he ran in the top three majority of the main event before mechanical failure forced the ultra quick driver out of competition. McQuarrie would be credited with the eleventh position.

The second and final race during the Sand Sports Super Show weekend for the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS will take place Saturday night at the OC Fair and Event Center. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. PST with racing starting at 7 p.m. PST. Tickets are available at the gate for $30 for adults, while tickets for children 12 and under, police, fire, and military are just $15.

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (August 30, 2016)- Robby Gordon’s SPEED Energy Stadium Super Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS will return to the OC Fair and Event Center Sept. 16 & 17 for two nights of exciting off-road racing action at the Sand Sports Super Show.

Similar to the last three years, another spectacular dirt and asphalt track will be built at the Orange County Fair Grounds. Last year’s layout produced some of the best racing we have scene in Costa Mesa with door to door racing action all over the track from the 650-horsepower TRAXXAS SST trucks. However, the highlight of the unique track was a massive ramp that launched the trucks at least 30 feet in the air, and across opposing lanes of traffic. This signature crossover jump is one of the most impressive aspects of any motorsports event and is one of the reasons the Orange County race generates a capacity crowd of off-road enthusiasts year after year.

In addition to the thrills and spills of the high flying SST trucks, Sand Sports Super Show attendees and UTV racers of Southern California will be treated to the addition of the $5,000 to win OPEN UTV Shootout. All makes and models of UTV’s are welcomed to compete in this newly added event, and a chance for one driver to bring home one of the biggest winnings offered in UTV racing today.

In addition to the OPEN UTV Shootout, Arctic Cat will hold their own under card race each night featuring celebrities and local Arctic Cat dealers. In similar fashion to SST racing, each competitor will be assigned to an identically prepared Arctic Cat Wildcat 1000 to take on each other in a true test of drivers skill.

While at the Sand Sports Super Show and SST race make sure to stop by and visit both Arctic Cat displays for new 2017 models and products. The main display will be located in the Sand Sports Super Show, while a smaller version will be located in the Stadium SUPER Trucks pit area.

Also returning to accompany the exciting SSTs and UTVS, will be a full slate of racing by the fan favorite 1400 trucks. These desert racers turned short course machines have been apart of the Stadium SUPER Trucks Sand Sports Super Show program since the inception back in 2013, and when they are on track you never know what to expect. In 2014 Michael Cox stole the show launching his modified Ford Bronco sky high much to the delight of the roaring crowd, last year it was Buddy Baker and Ryan Kibbe with the TrophyLTD car whom stunned the crowd and other competitors competing with the trucks. Who will be the highlight of the 1400 class in 2016?

Single- day tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for kids under 12, Police, Fire and active or retired military with a valid ID. All tickets will be sold at the gate on race day. Friday’s event will feature Kids free for kids under 12.

Fort Worth, Texas (August 27, 2016)- Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage announced today the addition of the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS to the speedway’s racing lineup in 2017.

The addition of Stadium SUPER Trucks will create a diverse tripleheader weekend in June as the racing series will be paired with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and Verizon IndyCar Series. The Stadium SUPER trucks feature event will take place in advance of the Firestone 600 on Saturday, June 10.

The widely popular SST Series features 12 identically prepared 650-horsepower trucks that are built to take flight much like their scaled down TRAXXAS radio-control-car counterparts. Able to race on virtually any surface, the SST trucks will race along the speedway’s pit road, frontstretch and portion of the infield. A detailed layout of the course will be announced at a later date.

Compared to the oval racing of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and Verizon IndyCar Series, the SST races will feature 36-inch tall aluminum ramps placed in strategic locations throughout the course, allowing the trucks to fly 20 feet off the ground and hundreds of feet down the course, all while hitting speeds upwards of 140 miles per hour.

The announcement was made by Gossage and former INDYCAR and NASCAR driver Robby Gordon, who created the series in 2013, at Texas Motor Speedway prior to Saturday night’s resumption of the Firestone 600 that was suspended from its June date due to weather-related issues.

“For Stadium SUPER Trucks to return back to the state of Texas, after competing at X Games Austin for two successful years, I cannot be more excited,” Stadium SUPER Trucks President Robby Gordon said. “When you think of Texas two things come to mind; trucks and things that are big. Stadium SUPER Trucks gives you both, with the excitement of competitive door-to-door racing with big air.”

Stadium SUPER Trucks feature an 11-event schedule in 2016 spanning five different countries, touring as co-events with INDYCAR and V8 Supercar in Australia and New Zealand.

Charlotte, North Carolina (August 19, 2016)- Returning back to the dirt for the first time in the 2016 SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks World Championship schedule, 10 identically prepared SST trucks took to The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina for the first of two recently added rounds.

Stadium SUPER Trucks World Championship point’s leader Sheldon Creed would continue his domination of SST capturing his eighth victory of the 2016 season in convincing fashion.

As a consistent drizzle throughout the race would truly test the grip of the DOT approved Toyo Open Country AT II Tires on the tacky red clay circuit constructed inside the The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

However Creed, a resident of Alpine, California did not let the slick surface phase him one bit driving his No. 74 TRAXXAS sponsored truck from the ninth starting position to the front of the field by Lap-4.

Substitute driving for Dustin Scott whom injured himself during qualification runs earlier in the afternoon.

Early race leader Arie Luyendyk Jr. would bicycle the SPEED Energy/ Cobra Transportation Services No. 20 onto two wheels in the corner to the cross over jump forcing him to slam on the brakes, and turn around and loosing valuable track position. Creed would take advantage of the mistake to overtake the lead and not look back.

Creed’s TRAXXAS teammate Matt Brabham of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia would practically latch onto the rear bumper of Creed going to the front of the field working his way into good battle with Luyendyk for the second spot by Lap-7.

After the competition caution no one would have anything for the two TRAXXAS drivers as they both would run one-two the rest of the event unchallenged.

Eighth starting Robby Gordon of Orange, Calif. would remain stuck mid-pack until Lap-10 when Gordon put an aggressive move on Luyendyk Jr. with a nasty slide job in the corner allowing him to move his Toyo Tires/KMC Wheels No. 7 into the third position.

Creed would go on to capture the victory ahead of teammate Matt Brabham, along with Robby Gordon rounding out the podium.

After breaking two ribs in practice earlier in the morning Norwell, Queensland, Australia driver Paul Morris would battle through the pain to drive his United Fiber & Data truck from the sixth starting position to fourth not overly pushing the limit of his wounded body.

Sara Price of Canyon Lake, Calif. making her third start in SST competition, but first with a newly announced partnership with UFD Racing. Price would start the 16-lap race in the fifth position and would remain in the fifth position throughout the event keeping up to the pace of skillful driver and teammate Paul Morris to get credited with a respectful fifth place finish.

Third starting Brian Ickler of San Diego, Calif.; making his first SST start would comfortably find the happy medium of the challenging to drive SST trucks after softly rolling over in morning practice. Ickler would drive the Arctic Cat/Toyo Tires No. 15 to a solid sixth place finish.

Santee, Calif. driver Robbie Pierce driving the Royal Purple Synthetic Lubricants No. 30 would lead the very first lap of the event, but would eventually begin to fade in the pack with power steering issues. Pierce would fight his truck around the challenging course to finish in the seventh spot.

Making his first ever start in a SST truck with only three laps of practice prior NASCAR veteran, and current Dirt Modified racer Kenny Wallace of St. Louis, Missouri would adapt quickly to the unique handling of an SST truck successfully bringing the SafeCraft Saftey Equipment truck home in the eighth position.

Nazareth, Penn. native Bill Hynes in the United Fiber & Data truck running a solid race would encounter a right front suspension issue, and pull off the course. Hynes would get created with ninth position.

Luyendyk, after running in the top three majority of the race would be credited with the tenth finishing position after breaking the studs off the left rear hub late in the event loosing his tire and forcing him to retire the SPEED Energy No. 20 truck.

Race two of the Showdown in Charlotte for the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by Traxxas will take place on Saturday night August 20 at 9:15 pm ET.

SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS join TORC Series for Charlotte Motor Speedway Stop

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (August 9, 2016) – SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS joins forces with TORC: The Off-Road Championship presented by AMSOIL for The Showdown in Charlotte featuring two exciting evenings of action at the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway August 19 and 20.

Stadium SUPER Trucks stars including Robby Gordon, Sheldon Creed, Matt Brabham, and Paul Morris are joined by likes of TORC Series drivers CJ Greaves, Keegan Kincaid, and Luke Johnson for a spectacular double bill that promises two action-packed evenings of racing.

“We’re thrilled to have Robby Gordon’s Stadium SUPER Trucks racing with us in Charlotte,” said TORC Series Chief Operating Officer Dave Swanwick. “As we develop and grow the TORC Series into the future under our new ownership, it’s exciting to bring new elements to our show and we know our fans are going to love this double bill.”

The doubleheader features the TORC Series racing in three classes both Friday and Saturday: the roaring, four-wheel drive PRO 4WD trucks, the 900 horsepower rear-wheel drive PRO 2WD machines, and the fiercely competitive PRO Lights, now joined for the Charlotte stop by the 650 horsepower ultra competitive high flying Stadium SUPER Trucks.

In the exciting return to the dirt for majority of the Stadium SUPER Trucks drivers, the TORC Series course design team will build out Charlotte Motor Speedway’s dirt oval into a challenging truck racing course featuring big jumps and banked turns. With a quick-change of the course between PRO 2WD and PRO 4WD racing will see additional features introduced for the Stadium SUPER Trucks, including a cross-over jump, and the addition of a 36 in. tall aluminum ramp on top of the existing table top used to give the lightweight trucks additional height and distance.

After fourteen of twenty-three rounds on the 2016 Stadium SUPER Trucks World Championship schedule Sheldon Creed leads TRAXXAS teammate Matt Brabham by 48 points. In role reversal Matt Brabham leads Sheldon Creed in the North America standings by seven points.

With just three races remaining in the TORC Series national championship, double defending champion CJ Greaves leads both the PRO 4WD and PRO 2WD classes, while Kyle Hart sits atop the standings in PRO Light.

The next event in the season-long SST World Championship will see the excitement of the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS return to the dirt and sand of Southern California with the Sand Sports Super Show event September 16-17.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 19, 2016) – Entries are now open, and 26 of the 144 spots for the inaugural Mike’s Peak Hill Climb Challenge have already been filled. The event takes place October 13-16, at the legendary Mike’s Sky Rancho in Baja California, Mexico.

The Off-road powerhouse team of RPM Off-Road of Bristol, Tenn., has entered five-vehicles to tackle the 31 km route, climbing the 4,000 foot ascent to the top of “Mike’s Peak” through multiple cattle guards and water crossings.

Headlining the entrants for the RPM team will be the 2015 SCORE Champion and the 2015 Baja 500 winner Apdaly Lopez of Tecate, Baja California. Proving he is ultra quick in the desert, Lopez will take the No. 1 unlimited truck up the hill in the quest to be the fastest. In addition to the SCORE championship, Apdaly Lopez is also the 2014 X-Games Gold medalist in the Stadium SUPER Trucks.

Joining Lopez will be the 2016 Parker 425 winner Justin Matney of Bristol, Tenn. and 2015 Baja Sur Winner Lalo Laguna of Mexicali, Baja California both fielding unlimited trucks.

“To have this caliber of drivers RPM is bringing to Mike’s, just shows the significance of this first-time event,” said SST series founder, Robby Gordon. “As more and more premiere drivers and teams enter, Mike’s Peaksurely will be the event everyone from the short course, desert, rally, UTV, quads and motorcycles will want to be apart of.”

Also joining the RPM team will be veteran off-road competitor Juan Carlos Lopez of Tecate, Baja California with an unlimited entry, and long-time off-road racing supporter Clyde Stacy in a 1450 truck.

REGISTRATION
Online registration, by class, for Pro and Sportsman cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles and quads, is ongoing through the official Mike’s Peak Hill Climb Challenge website. Drivers and co-drivers are also able to download the registration form and email or mail your entry form in if you prefer that method of entering.

Entries will be accepted until 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 1. Late entries after that date and all on-site late entries will be accessed a $200.00 USD late fee added to the original cost.

In addition to drivers and co-drivers filling out the Mike’s Peak Hill Climb Challenge registration and submitting payment, all competitors must apply for a United States Auto Club (USAC) SST Mike’s Peak Hill Climb Challenge single event license and provide proof of receipt.

RACE COURSE
When finished, the 31 km race course will be another memorable example of all that Mexico’s Baja California has to offer, including natural rollers, water crossings, high-speed dirt trails, sandy, rocky and silty natural terrain, and cattle guards, all while climbing to the top of Mike’s Sky Rancho at over 4,000 feet. The course will be another jewel reflecting the natural beauty Baja California represents.

RACE WEEK
Race week festivities will start Wednesday October 12 with the daylong, pre-race Manufacturer’s Midway and contingency/tech festival in front of the Riviera del Pacifico Culterural Center in Ensenada.

Wednesday night all racers will move out 52 miles east of Ensenada on Hwy 3 in close proximity towards San Felipe Valley and Trinidad where numerous 30’ x 70’ camp spots will await competitors arrival for set up.

Shortly after sunrise Thursday morning October 13, competitors will all have their first opportunity to tackle the course up the challenging hill to Mike’s Sky Rancho. Competitors will have one opportunity to make a practice run.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday based on class size competitors will be scheduled to make timed race passes up the hill to be scored towards whom is the fastest to Mike’s Peak.

AT THE RIVIERA…
The Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center, in the heart of Ensenada, will be the site of many of the activities surrounding the Mike’s Peak Hill Climb Challenge. Racer registration, Media registration and mandatory pre-race meeting will all be held at the Riviera on Wednesday, October 12.

On-site camping, close proximity to Ensenada (90 miles East on Hwy 3), San Felipe Valley, and Trinidad, and multiple road access to viewing points, mean the race to Mike’s Peak will instantly become a fan and driver favorite. ABOUT MIKE’S SKY RANCHO
Mike Leon, an American citizen whose family came from Jalisco, Mexico, had owned a couple of bars in Tijuana, but by the mid-1960s he’d had enough of the demanding grind and began looking for a more pastoral setting. In 1967, he bought several thousand acres under the dark skies and twinkling stars of Baja California’s highest mountains and opened Mike’s Sky Rancho, a guest resort in the high foothills of the San Pedro Mártir. Sitting on a knoll above the San Rafael creek in a picturesque and wooded valley, it’s a steep, brush-covered mountains rise in the background to the pine-covered 7,100-foot summit of Cerro San Matìas, visible off to the east. The crystal-clear San Rafael stream winds through the valley floor and must be forded to reach the ranch.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada (July 17, 2016) – In a complete role reversal of Saturday afternoons race, Sheldon Creed captured Sunday’s exciting SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS (SST) closing event of the Honda Indy Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada by besting his TRAXXAS teammate, and Saturday’s winner; Gold Coast, QLD, Australia driver Matt Brabham by a margin of .004 seconds.

Tenth Starting Robby Gordon of Orange, Calif. would waste no time getting to the front of the field tracking down SST’s first female competitor and early race leader Sara Price of Canyon Lake, Calif. on Lap-4. Following the tracks of the Gordon in the Arctic Cat/ Toyo Tires/ SPEED Energy No. 7 to the front from their eleventh and twelfth starting positions, TRAXXAS teammates Sheldon Creed of Alpine, Calif. and Matt Brabham of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia would waste no time looking for the lead.

Right before the competition caution would fly Creed would nab the lead from Gordon, followed by Brabham in third. The restart would see Creed try to block Gordon for the lead, but Gordon would be too much for Creed to handle. Setting back into the second position Creed and Brabham would tandem draft down the back straight as the two TRAXXAS trucks would blow past the Gordon’s machine into the first and second positions.

The final four laps would see Brabham pull his No. 83 truck along side the 2015 SST Champion in a challenge for the lead. Racing side-by-side much of the race circuit Brabham and Creed would alternate the lead six different times three-wheeling through the corners and putting on an absolute display of driving talent.

Just like the day before the final lap would see the two TRAXXAS drivers continue to go side-by-side all around the Honda Indy Toronto street circuit with the capacity Canadian crowd on their feet with ecstatic cheers. Coming off the final corner Creed and Brabham would race neck and neck to the checkered flag. Creed would make contact with the side of Brabham causing him to fall off the side of the second jump coming to the checkered flag. The contact was enough to allow Creed to grab the victory by a mirror .004 seconds.

Sunday’s victory would be Creed’s seventh victory of the 2016 season.

Much like the position Paul Morris was in one day prior Gordon held the best seat in the house to view the multi-lap duel of the TRAXXAS drivers out in front of the field. Gordon waiting for both drivers to take each other out and capture the win would have to settle for finishing in the third position.

Looking to improve on his fifth place finish from Saturday; Singleton, New South Wales, Australia driver Toby Price would keep his SafeCraft Safety Equipment No. 87 clean sticking with the leaders and would capitalize on a late race spin by Norwell, Queensland, Australia driver Paul Morris. Price would cross the line in a respectable fourth position while Morris would be credited with the fifth spot.

Inver Grove Heights, Minn. driver Dustin Scott would advance one position from his seventh starting spot to claim the sixth position for the second straight day driving his SPEED Energy/ Cobra Transportation No. 20 truck.

Making his second start in a SST race, veteran CART/Champ Car and NASCAR driver Max Papis of Como, Italy would study extensive in-car video over the evening, and the results would show holding with the lead pack most of race. Papis whom was upset with his showing on Saturday, finished in a respectable seventh position and can’t wait to get back behind the wheel again to improve even more.

Scottsdale, Ariz. driver P.J. Jones was credited with the eighth position in the United Fiber & Data No. 98 after making slight contact with various trucks and falling back in the field.

Sara Price in just her second SST start would use all the knowledge she learned in Saturday’s first event to turn heads and capitalize on a mistake by Paul Tracy to drive her BitTorrent No. 78 truck to the lead on Lap-1. Price was able to lead her first three-laps before Gordon and Creed would work there by on the inside to the front of the field. Holding her ground Price would run with the lead pack for most of the event until the brakes would fade considerably forcing her to miss the braking zone on multiple corners ultimately finishing in a very respectable ninth place finish.

Third starting Russell Boyle of Toronto, Ontario, Canada driving the KMC Wheels/ NGStone/ Morgan No. 93 entered Sunday’s event looking to improve on yesterday’s skirmish with Toronto rival Paul Tracy. Boyle would loose the handle on his truck multiple times in the 11-lap event to finish in the tenth position in the final run down.

Bill Hynes from Nazareth, Penn. driving the United Fiber & Data truck was credited with the eleventh position after spinning and stalling his truck on Lap-8 and was unable to finish the scheduled amount of laps.

Fourth starting Paul Tracy of Scarborough, Ont., Canada would quickly jump out to an early lead as the Canadian fans went ecstatic. However, much like Saturday afternoon Tracy would encounter problems leading the race. Missing a breaking zone Tracy would stuff his Royal Purple Synthetic Oil truck into the tire barrier causing extensive damage to his No. 30 machine.

Matt Brabham would capture the overall win for the weekend with the lowest average of both races with his win on Saturday, and his second place finish Sunday, Second was claimed by Sheldon Creed, while the overall podium was completed by Robby Gordon in third.
