Driver line-up confirmed for Stadium SUPER Trucks Debut at Clipsal 500

Adelaide, South Australia ( February 16, 2015) – Clipsal 500 Adelaide organizers today announced the full driver line-up for the Toyo Tires Stadium Super Trucks Presented by Traxxas (SST) race, which will be the Australia debut of the world’s newest and most exciting form of racing.

SST founder and two-time series champion Robby Gordon will be the star attraction when these 600 horsepower V8 trucks line up on the starting grid for next week’s Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

The Toyo Tires Stadium Super Trucks race will see high profile local and international drivers racing side by side in 10 high powered off-road trucks. The trucks approach speeds of up to 140 mph and ramps can launch the trucks 20 feet into the air and 150 feet down the track.

The starting line-up for the debut of the SST Series in Australia includes five drivers who have competed in the Stadium Super Truck Series previously; Venezuelan IndyCar driver E.J. Viso , rising star Keegan Kincaid, Charles Dorrance, Bill Hynes, and the future of off-road racing, 17 year-old Sheldon Creed.

The Australian contingent eager to impress in their first outing behind the wheel of a Stadium Super Truck consists of; off-road motorcycle racer Toby Price, off-road racing legend Brad Gallard, former V8 Supercars driver and 24-hour Bathurst winner Nathan Pretty and Australia’s most prolific stunt rider Matt Mingay.

Although accustomed to off-road racing on two wheels, Toby Price will be on a high heading into the Clipsal 500 Adelaide after recently becoming just the second Australian to stand on the winners’ podium at the grueling Dakar Rally, clinching third overall after the final stage in Argentina.

The SST’s will hit the track at the 2015 V8 Supercars season opener on Thursday, February 26th, with specially designed jumps added to the iconic Adelaide street circuit and racing scheduled to run over four days.

“Stadium Super Trucks have become hugely popular at motor racing events in the United States and we’re very excited to be hosting the first ever Stadium Super Trucks event outside of North America,” said Clipsal 500 CEO Mark Warren.

Toyo Tires has acquired the naming rights sponsorship of the Australian debut of Stadium Super Trucks presented by TRAXXAS at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide. Supporting sponsors of the series include; Clipsal By Schneider Electric, Traxxas, Hoggs Breath Café, Jet Pilot and GoPro.

Competition on track is set to be fierce as the trucks literally fly through Victoria Park, featuring drivers from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds.

Robby Gordon Brings The Stadium Super Trucks To Barbados

One of global motor sport’s most versatile stars, Robby Gordon will compete at next week’s Race Of Champions in Barbados. The American driver will also bring his mighty Stadium Super Trucks, which are some of the most spectacular vehicles in the sport. Gordon joins a ROC 2014 field featuring greats from Formula 1, MotoGP, Le Mans, IndyCar, NASCAR, World Rallycross and Touring Cars. Tickets are available via www.raceofchampions.com for ROC 2014 at Bushy Park Barbados on December 13-14.

American motor sport superstar Robby Gordon will compete at the 2014 Race Of Champions, to be held at Bushy Park Barbados on December 13-14. But Gordon’s not travelling to Barbados alone: he’s bringing his stunning Stadium Super Trucks, which will also feature in the racing action.

One of the most versatile drivers in the world and experienced in everything from sports cars to trucks, Gordon has competed in a range of series including NASCAR, CART, IndyCar, Trans-Am, IMSA and the Dakar Rally. The American raced for over 20 years in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, taking three wins and 39 top-tens. In addition he has had three top-five finishes in the Indianapolis 500.

Gordon has also taken four Baja 500 victories, three Baja 1000 victories and seven SCORE International off-road championships. He has now become a regular stage winner on the brutal Dakar Rally, where he will again be competing early in 2015.

For the last two years Gordon has also won the championship in the SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS in one of his spectacular Stadium Super Trucks. These mighty trucks have to be seen to be believed – which is fortunate for the crowds heading to Bushy Park Barbados as they will now be one of the vehicles in competitive action at the Race Of Champions itself.

Gordon will pair up with 2014 World Touring Car Champion José-Maria ‘Pechito’ López for Team Americas in the ROC Nations Cup, a duo that is sure to set pulses racing. At Gordon’s first Race Of Champions in 2001 he broke the lap record around the event’s long-time home at Gran Canaria, setting a mark that still stands today. He also rolled his car within sight of victory against that year’s eventual ROC Champion of Champions Harri Rovanperä.

This time Gordon and López will be part of a ROC 2014 line-up featuring greats from all over the world: nine-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Tom Kristensen, 2014 FIA World Rallycross Champion Petter Solberg, Formula 1’s reigning ROC Champion of Champions Romain Grosjean, 2014 Indy 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay, NASCAR champion Kurt Busch, V8 Supercar legend Jamie Whincup, five-time 500cc MotoGP world champion Mick Doohan, 13-time F1 grand prix winner David Coulthard, 2014 FIA European F3 Champion Esteban Ocon, Williams F1 test driver Susie Wolff and 2014 GP2 Champion Jolyon Palmer will all be racing in Barbados.

Gordon said: “It’s cool to get the opportunity to come back to the Race Of Champions again and to compete against guys like my brother-in-law Ryan Hunter-Reay (who is married to Robby’s sister Beccy) and Tom Kristensen. Tom was there with me back at my first ROC in 2001 so it will be fun to go back and race against him again to see where my skills stack up 13 years later. I’m also looking forward to teaming up with Pechito on Team Americas – especially having spent so much time in Argentina at the Dakar Rally in recent years.

“It’s cool that we’ll get to introduce the trucks to everybody as well. It will be a first for some drivers but we’ll set up an adjustable ramp for the guys. I can change the pitch angle according to what the drivers and the officials like but these things have been known to jump 20 or 30 feet off the ground for the length of a football field so either way it will be exciting…”

ROC organiser Fredrik Johnsson added: “Robby is one of the most colourful figures in world motor sport and I’ve no doubt he’ll be in the thick of the action at next week’s Race Of Champions. At his last ROC appearance in 2001 he rolled one car, pulled off another spectacular save and set a lap record round our Gran Canaria circuit that still stands… talk about giving the fans value for money!

“But if that sounds good, just wait till you see his Stadium Super Trucks, which are sure to put a smile on the faces of everyone watching – and everyone driving as well. We have greats racing from Formula 1, Le Mans, MotoGP, IndyCar, NASCAR, World Rallycross and Touring Cars but I bet none of them have driven anything like this…”

The Race Of Champions, which has been held for over 25 years, brings together the world’s greatest drivers from motor sport’s major disciplines and sets them free to battle head-to-head in identical machinery on a unique track with two parallel lanes linked by a crossover bridge. The ROC weekend features over 60 individual duels.

Sheldon Creed Takes Final 2014 SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS Race

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Nov. 6, 2014)- Sheldon Creed drove his TRAXXAS truck to victory over Robby Gordon in the season finale of the SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS race at the sold out MGM Resorts Village along the Las Vegas Strip.

The race, which was sponsored by Las Vegas Events, featured three segments of eight laps in the final race, with Gordon and Creed fighting nose to tail trading the lead regularly throughout the event. RPM Off Road driver and X Games Austin winner Apdaly Lopez drove a steady race and navigated through traffic on the tight circuit to finish third.

Keegan Kincaid, who drove a second TRAXXAS truck, finished fourth with 15-year-old Gavin Harlien rounding out the top five.

The Las Vegas victory was the 16-year-old Creed’s third of the season. Two roll-overs had the crowd gasping, the first of which involved Dave Royce whose Criterion Cars truck clipped the front stretch wall causing the veteran driver to roll onto his roof, and later, Royce again was involved in an incident, this time with Travis Pecoy who ended up on his roof after sliding off the side of the massive cross-over jump in the middle of course.

SST will begin its 2015 season at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, Australia Feb. 27-March 1 and follow that with a full slate of races with a schedule that will be announced in the coming weeks.

The SST race from MGM in Las Vegas can be seen on NBCSN Nov. 21 at 12:30 a.m. ET and 9:30 p.m.PT and (Nov. 20).

E.J. Viso wins in First TRAXXAS Truck Race at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix

DETROIT, Mich. (May 30, 2014) – Venezuela’s E.J. Viso drove his Menards Formula Off-Road Presented TRAXXAS truck to victory lane Friday at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix in front of thousands of new truck racing fans.

Viso, driving the No. 19 Momo/Gridstar-sponsored truck, inherited the lead from teammate Henrique Cisneros in the No. 91 Momo/Gridstar truck after he took the first of two consecutive metal ramps located on the front-stretch of the 2.35-mile street circuit awkwardly. The result was a rough landing which left Cisneros little time to correct his truck before launching off the second ramp. The second landing was even rougher and Cisneros pounded the front-stretch wall with his truck’s right front ending his race.

As Viso continued to lead the nine-truck field, TRAXXAS driver Keegan Kincaid found trouble in a single-truck incident with three laps to go and put him upside down on the backstretch where his truck blocked the racing lane. While Kincaid unbuckled and crawled out of his TRAXXAS truck unhurt even before safety crews arrived, and his truck was able to return to competition, race officials determined the truck could not be righted quickly enough to resume the race.

Viso was declared the winner at that point.

“My friend has been telling me all day that I haven’t stopped smiling,” said Viso, a veteran of five years in the Verizon IndyCar Series. “These trucks are so fun, and after throwing away a win at Long Beach earlier this year it was good to get the first win of the three races this weekend in Detroit. This is going to be a great weekend of racing and I am looking forward to standing on the podium again this weekend.”

Arie Luyendyk Jr. was running second late in the race when he made a bold move on Viso for the race lead. Viso protected his line pinching Luyendyk’s Quicken Loans truck down causing him to lose momentum, allowing Robby Gordon to make a clean pass for second which is where the Orange, Calif. driver finished. Luyendyk finished third with series rookie Aaron Bambach from nearby Rochester Hills, Mich. taking home fourth in the BZ’s Twisted Blend/3deminsional.com TRAXXAS truck. Los Angeles driver Burt Jenner in the Gladiator truck took fifth, Scotty Steele came home sixth. Kincaid was credited with seventh, Cisneros eighth and last week’s winner at Indianapolis Apdaly Lopez finished ninth in the RPM/VisitMexico.com truck after retiring early with a mechanical issue.

The Menards Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS series will stage two more races, with the rough-and-tumble trucks Saturday on Belle Isle at 2:10 p.m. Sunday’s third race of the weekend will go green at 1:55 p.m. The overall weekend winner will be determined by an average finish from all three races, with any ties broken by the highest finishers in Sunday’s race. Saturday and Sunday’s races can be seen live on the internet at www.stadiumsupertrucks.com. A replay of the Menards TRAXXAS races from Detroit will be shown on NBCSN June 20 at 10:30 p.m. PDT (1:30 a.m. June 21 EDT). The Menards at the Brickyard TRAXXAS races from Indianapolis will be shown on NBCSN June 13 at 9 p.m. (PDT) (midnight EST).

Arie Luyendyk Jr. to Drive Quicken Loans Truck at Detroit TRAXXAS Race

quicken

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 28, 2014) – Quicken Loans and Arie Luyendyk Jr. will headline a group of nine drivers in the Menards-sponsored Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS race in Detroit Friday-Sunday.  The Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix will feature Stadium Super Truck (SST) races on each of the three days, with Luyendyk making his second appearance in an SST this season.

Luyendyk and his Quicken Loans truck will race on beautiful Belle Isle in the middle of the Detroit River Friday at 4:35 p.m., Saturday at 2:10 p.m. and Sunday at 1:55 p.m.  While Detroit has long been known for its proud racing and muscle car heritage, the SST TRAXXAS trucks will be making their debut in the Motor City bringing a unique and thrilling style of racing that few on Belle Isle have ever experienced.

The Stadium Super Trucks will hit man-made ramps at more than 100 miles-per-hour (MPH) at multiple locations throughout the street circuit hurling drivers more than 100 feet down course and as high as 15 feet off the ground.  The series features identically prepared trucks which are made to resemble their scaled-down TRAXXAS radio-control-car counterparts. Like their TRAXXAS namesake, the trucks are designed to take flight, however, unlike RC trucks, they produce 600 horsepower generating speeds upwards of 130 MPH.

“I’m excited to be a part of the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix weekend with Formula Off-Road by TRAXXAS,” Luyendyk said.  “It’s an honor to represent Quicken Loans in their hometown.  I can’t wait to hit the track and show Detroit what these trucks can do.  The Quicken Loans paint scheme looks amazing and I hope I can bring home a win in at least one of the three race we will have this weekend.”

Joining Luyendyk in the Menards Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS races at Belle Isle will be last week’s Formula Off-Road by TRAXXAS winner Apdaly Lopez from Tecate, B.C. Mexico, Venezuelans Henrique Cisneros and E.J. Viso, Californians Burt Jenner and Robby Gordon, Arizona’s Scotty Steele and Wisconsin’s Keegan Kincaid.  Detroit’s own Aaron Bambach will be expanding his diverse racing resume by making his first start in an SST.

Luyendyk and Gordon will join IndyCar and sports car drivers today at the Quicken Loans Grand Prix Street Fest at Detroit’s Campus Martius Park and Cadillac Square in Detroit.

Tickets to the weekend’s events are available by visiting http://detroitgp.com/.  A national broadcast of the races from Detroit will air June 20 at 10:30 p.m. (PDT) (1:30 a.m. EDT June 21).  The races from Indianapolis will be shown on NBCSN June 13 at 9 p.m. (PDT) (midnight EST).  All three races from Detroit will be streamed live on the internet at www.stadiumsupertrucks.com.

Apdaly Lopez wins Historic Menards at the Brickyard by TRAXXAS Race

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 23, 2014) – Apdaly Lopez of Tecate, B.C. Mexico entered racing’s history books Friday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway by capturing the win in the second of two Menards at the Brickyard by TRAXXAS races and securing the overall win with the highest average finish in the two races.  It marked the first time in the 105-year history of the famed Brickyard that trucks raced on the property.

Lopez, 19, driving the VisitMexico.com/RPM Off-Road truck was making his eighth start in the Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS series.  He is second-generation off-road specialist and is an up-and-coming star in the TRAXXAS series and the deserts of Baja.

Robby Gordon won the first of the two races at Indianapolis in the Menards/SPEED Energy truck and finished fourth in the overall standings given his sixth-place finish in the second race.  Lopez finished third in race one before winning race two.

“I just kept looking in my mirror and would see the guys behind me start racing,” Lopez said.  “I wasn’t going to make a mistake and when they got close I just gave it a little more and pulled away.  What an honor to win a race at Indianapolis.”

Keegan Kincaid driving the blue TRAXXAS truck and Jerett Brooks in the Synergy Electric truck took home second and third-place honors, followed by Gordon and Sheldon Creed in the Red TRAXXAS truck. Arie Luyendyk Jr. in the Relief OTC/Harding Asphalt truck finished sixth, Scotty Steele’s Steele Racing machine finished seventh with series newcomers Burt Jenner in the Gladiator truck and Robbie Pierce in the Mastercraft/IMPACT truck finishing eighth and ninth.

On the warmup lap for race one, Charles Dorrance of Austin, Tex. aggressively hit the second of two 36-inch tall ramps on the course and nose-dived his truck into the infield grass of the Speedway and tumbled end-over-end for several hundred yards before climbing out of the destroyed Stadium Super Truck under his own power.  He was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and treated for a rib injury.

The Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS series moves to the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix for three races May 30-June 1.  Tickets are available by visiting http://detroitgp.com/. ; The races from Indianapolis will be shown on NBCSN June 13 at 9 p.m. (PDT) (midnight EST).  All three races from Detroit will be streamed live on the internet at www.stadiumsupertrucks.com.

Winter X Games Gold Medalist Nick Baumgartner to Compete in X Games Austin

nick1
Iron River, Mich. (April 29, 2014) – Nick Baumgartner will officially become a dual sport X Games athlete June 5-8 when he competes in X Games Austin. Both Baumgartner and off road truck racing will make their X Games debuts in the Texas heat. Baumgartner will go to battle in the No. 12 Loctite® SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road Presented by Traxxas SST fighting for X Games Austin Gold.

“I have worked so hard for these opportunities and having my dream of racing the Summer X Games come true is so awesome,” Baumgartner said. “I am so thankful that Henkel and the Loctite® products team believes in me and what I am doing. Without their support I would not be living my dreams and competing to be the best on the snow and in the truck.”

“Nick’s enthusiasm and commitment to success is very inspiring to so many people, making him a great ambassador for Henkel and our Loctite brand of adhesives and sealants,” said Mike Shannahan, General Industrial Marketing Director for Henkel Corporation, North America. “We are proud to support Nick in his latest challenge of competing in the Stadium Super Truck race in this year’s Summer X Games. With the aggressive style demonstrated by Nick in both Snowboard X and off road truck racing, combined with the high performance and reliability of the Loctite products used on his race truck, we are confident Nick will be a dominant force in the upcoming Summer X event.”

Baumgartner has a lot of seat time in a Stadium Super Truck and in his last SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road Presented by Traxxas SST race he finished third pressuring off-road legends Robby Gordon and Rob MacCachren right to the finish line. Gordon and Baumgartner would jump the final ramp side by side for an epic finish.

“I am stoked to represent the Winter X Games athletes in Austin,” Baumgartner continued.

Fresh off the Olympics, Baumgartner is now switching gears and preparing for the off-road racing season. Due to the importance of this snowboard season and making the toughest Olympic Team in the world, lining up sponsors and raising money for the season had to be pushed back so focus was in the right place. Look for Baumgartner’s team very soon at a track near you.

MacCachren Sweeps Stadium SUPER Trucks Round No. 6

St. Louis, Mo. (June 8, 2013) – After the first five events primarily on the west coast, SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks brought the 600 hp high flying machines inside the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Mo., for a night of urban off-road action. Rob MacCachren, Aaron Basl, and Sheldon Creed were able to conquer the multiple challenges of the tacky Missouri clay to record wins in Round No. 6 of SST Competition.

Rob MacCachren, of Las Vegas, Nev., driving the No. 21 Traxxas truck made a late race pass to en route to capturing his third SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks win of the season.
The 18-Lap SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks final began from a staggered start and saw first place starter Arie Luyendyk Jr. of Scottsdale, Ariz., jump out to the early lead ahead of SST newcomer Keegan Kincaid.

On Lap-2, the No. 25 Team Arie truck would find trouble completing just one of the corners and slipping back multiple positions. Kincaid would inherit the lead in front of Iron River, Mich., native Nick Baumgartner.

Trouble would find Justin Lofton on Lap-5 as the driver of the Lofton Cattle No. 6 would roll his truck over on the roof.

Kincaid driving the No. 47 Traxxas truck would get crossed up on the restart, allowing Baumgartner to slide by into the top position. Baumgartner’s lead did not last for long as the 15-year old Sheldon Creed would race his No. 74 past Baumgartner just one lap later.

Coming over the finish line jump on Lap-8 Creed would land awkwardly, causing him to drive off track, and collect multiple water barriers handing the lead over to MacCachren.

The red flag would fly for Adrian Cenni on Lap-10 as he would crash hard into the face of the landing coming over the finish line jump. Cenni would be alright, but his truck sustained enough damage to side line him for the rest of the event.

The restart saw Kincaid make a move to the inside of MacCachren for the lead, but would come to a halt coming to the finish line.

Eight place starter Robby Gordon would capitalize on Kincaid’s misfortune by working his way past MacCachren on Lap-12 over taking the lead.

Gordon would lead the next two circuits before bicycling his truck coming to complete Lap-14. The problems did not end there as Gordon’s motor would start to encounter problems in the remaining laps.

MacCachren went on to take the No. 21 Traxxas truck to a Round No.6 victory over of Gordon and Nick Baumgartner.

After the race, an excited MacCachren commented on winning Stadium SUPER Trucks Round No.6;

“St. Louis SST Round No. 6 was incredible the Traxxas truck was fast out of the box, we qualified first, won our heat race, and won the SST Final. It was a though battle with multiple people, and even the track. Every lap you came around the track was changing and deteriorating. Humongous breaking bumps, with large ruts going around the corners where you really had to pay attention and be spot on to not hook a rut and lose time. At the beginning I was being too patient about the lead. I was checking my mirror and didn’t even see Robby there and all of a sudden he was next to me. He ended up bicycling and I drove underneath him. From there we just tried to be smooth and consistent.”

With the victory MacCachren moved back into the points lead by 22 points.

“We got our points lead back from Robby and need to try to increase it as much as we can. After the heat my truck was making a real clunking noise and we couldn’t locate what it was. The call was made to change the transmission and the drive shaft. I need to thank the SST and Traxxas guys for working hard and getting that all changed. These SST races are such a good time, everyone is high fiving afterwards and I’m really having so much fun racing in this series. There are only more good things to happen.’

The Monster Truck Final saw new comer Aaron Basl driving the Graffiti truck defeat Summit Racing Equipment BIGFOOT of Dan Runte in a close matched Chicago style duel.

Sheldon Creed pulling double duty would go on to dominate the 6-Lap SUPER Trophy Kart final ahead of DJ Noerr and third place finisher Matt Baker.

Marking the half-way point of the 2013 schedule, Round 6 of the exciting new off road series; will feature 450RS Trophy Karts in addition to all the regular racing action.
