Robby Gordon Snaps Winless Streak, Capturing Townsville Australia Race 2

Townsville, Queensland (July 9, 2016) – Robby Gordon driving the Hot Wheels No. 2 truck for injured SST driver Matt Mingay captured Saturday’s thrilling second round of the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS (SST) at the Townsville 400 in Townsville, Queensland, Australia beating Alpine, Calif. driver Sheldon Creed to the line by less than a truck length.

SuperCheap Auto/ Hungry Jack’s driver Paul Morris of Norwell, Queensland, Australia finished third, holding off the hard charging TRAXXAS driver Matt Brabham whom spun early in the event and would work his way back to fourth position.

Gordon, a veteran off-road racer from Orange, Calif., started second on the grid after encountering mechanical issues in Friday’s opening round, but wasted no time jumping out to the lead after making a strong move early in the event to work past early leader Rob Whyte of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

From Lap 1 Gordon drove a smart and conservative race to keep the aggressive driving of Creed and Morris behind him. Creed Friday afternoons winner on a last lap pass raced through the field from his twelfth starting position to be knocking on the door of race leader Gordon by Lap-7.

The final two circuits saw the TRAXXAS driver Creed apply heavy pressure to Gordon as he attempted everything in his bag of tricks to work his way past the ultra quick Gordon.

The last lap saw Creed try to make the same last corner pass he did one day prior, but would ultimately come up a few inches short as the Hot Wheels No. 2 of Gordon and the TRAXXAS No. 1 went side by side down the front straight to the checkered flag.

Gordon would capture his first victory of the 2016 season ahead of Creed, and Morris.

Following Saturday’s second SST race of the Townsville 400, Gordon considered Saturday’s victory special as not only was he racing for fellow injured competitor and friend Matt Mingay, but the victory snapped an eleven race winless streak dating back to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2015.

“It’s great to be back on top of the box, and to capture my first victory of the year in the Hot Wheels Castrol EDGE No. 2 driving for Matt is something special. We all are wishing Matt the best of luck in the recovery process, and hope to see him back out here competing with us again real soon.” Gordon Stated after the win.

As thousands of spectators lined the 13-turn 1.78-mile (2.85 km) Townsville Street Circuit to watch 12 TRAXXAS-branded trucks launch off of man-made ramps on the same DOT-approved Toyo Tires that consumers can buy. The loud raucous cheers of disbelief from the thousands of Australian SST fans could be heard over the trucks as fans of traditional newly renamed Supercar racing saw the trucks literally fly through the air side by side beating and banging in complete racing chaos.

Arie Luyendyk Jr. from Scottsdale, Ariz. finished fifth in the Royal Purple Synthetic Oil truck for his second consecutive top five finish, while Penola, South Australia driver Greg Gartner claimed the sixth position in his R&J Batteries/ Delkor Calcium Battery No. 410 truck.

Caracas, Venezuela driver E.J. Viso driving the Mount Margaret Residential Estate No. 5 would run in the second position behind Gordon for the first five laps of the race until trouble would strike him spinning on his own after getting passed by Morris and Creed. Viso would be go on to be credited with the seventh position.

Rob Whyte of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia driving the AVA Performance Tuning No. 11 would have a better luck than Friday finishing in the eighth position.

Burbank, Calif. driver Erik Davis would encounter a late race spin, and would be scored in the ninth position at the finish of the ten-lap event.

Shaun Richardson from Scunthrope, United Kingdom making his second SST start driving the Positive Automotive/ Positive Trailers No. 12 would feel more comfortable behind the wheel of his SST today running with the lead pack for a good portion of the event before a tangle with Paul Morris would send him to the back, ultimately finishing in the tenth position.

Park City, Utah driver Todd Romano was credited with the eleventh position in the Arctic Cat/ Toyo Tires/ KMC Wheels No 33 after making contact with the wall and falling back in the field.

Bill Hynes of Nazareth, Penn. would be credited with the twelfth position after encountering transmission issues on Lap-7 in the World Gym No. 76, and would not complete all of the scheduled laps.

The SST trucks will return to the Townsville Street Circuit for their third and final round of the Townsville 400 on Sunday at 2:10 pm local time in front of an anticipated capacity crowd.

TRAXXAS Driver Sheldon Creed Wins Townsville Australia SST Race 1 in Thrilling Fashion

Townsville, Queensland (July 8, 2016) – 2015 SST Champion Sheldon Creed left off right where he did the last time he was on Australian soil (March/Clipsal 500 Adelaide) racing to the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS victory in thrilling fashion Friday afternoon in the opening race of the Townsville 400 weekend.

With this weekend being the first visit of the SST trucks to fast and technical temporary street circuit that makes up the 13-turn 1.78-mile (2.85 km) street course built for the newly re-named SuperCars series many drivers would struggle to hit their marks throughout the race.

However, two drivers that would have no issues making there way through the field would be Paul Morris of Norwell, Queensland and Alpine, Calif. driver Sheldon Creed aggressively charged past truck after truck from their eleventh and twelfth starting positions to the withstand a plethora of contact and spinning trucks to place themselves in a shootout for the win the final two laps.

The final lap would see Morris and Creed put on driving clinic for the ecstatic fans as Creed would stalk Morris to the last corner to set up a pass for the lead. In which Creed completed a daring move to the inside of Morris moving him up the track with a bit of contact. Creed would go on to capture the win much to the delight of thousands of screaming Australian Stadium SUPER Truck fans.

TRAXXAS racer Matt Brabham of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia never paid a ticket, but had the best seat in the house to view the Morris/Creed duel. Brabham would cross the finish line behind Morris in the third position.

Arie Luyendyk Jr. from Scottsdale, Ariz. making his third SST start of 2016 finished fourth in the Royal Purple Synthetic Oil backed entry, while Penola, South Australia off-road veteran Greg Gartner rounded out the top five in his R&J Batteries/ Delkor Calcium Battery No. 410 truck.

Making his first ever SST start Park City, Utah driver Todd Romano was sixth in the Arctic Cat/ Toyo Tires/ KMC Wheels No 33, followed in seventh by Bill Hynes with his best finish of the year driving the World Gym No. 76 truck.

Burbank, Calif. driver Erik Davis driving the Always Evolving/ AERNow/ Replay XD truck would run in the top five for the first half of the race, but would encounter a late race spin, and would be scored in the eighth position at the finish of the nine lap event.

Shaun Richardson from Scunthrope, United Kingdom making his first SST start driving the Positive Automotive/ Positive Trailers No. 12 would struggle a bit getting the handle on his SST truck crossing the line in the ninth position.

Former IndyCar racer E.J. Viso of Caracas, Venezuela raced out to the early lead for the first half of the race from his first starting position, but that would all change as veteran off-road racer Robby Gordon would make contact with the Mount Margaret truck of Viso going for the lead. Viso would drop back in the running order, and eventually be credited with the tenth position, as damage to his hood would hinder his vision.

Gordon driving the Hot Wheels/ Castrol EDGE colors this weekend for injured SST driver Matt Mingay would go on to lead two laps after passing Viso. Morris and Creed would pressure Gordon for the lead and Gordon would get into the wall causing damage to his No. 2 truck. Gordon would not finish the race and be credited with the eleventh position.

Australian drifting legend Rob Whyte driving the AVA Performance Tuning truck would roll over in Friday mornings practice would encounter more mechanical failure and go on to be credited with twelfth finishing position after failing to complete the scheduled laps.

The SST trucks will return to the Townsville Street Circuit for there second round of the Townsville 400 on Saturday at 2:315 pm local time in front of an anticipated capacity crowd.

First-Ever Hill Climb Race on Legendary Mike’s Sky Rancho To Bring World Class Racers to Baja in October 2016

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 30, 2016) – Entries from all across the United States and around Mexico are expected as online registration for the upcoming 1st Annual Mike’s Peak Hill Climb Challenge is underway.

In honor of the 50 years of Baja Racing on the road to Mike’s Sky Rancho, SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS has partnered with the Ranch to invite all off-road vehicles – of the two, three or four wheeled varieties – to compete in this one of a kind challenging hill climb competition.

The four-day event will run October 13-16, 2016 with classes ranging from, but not limited to the following vehicle types:

United States Auto Club (USAC) officials will score the Mike’s Peak Hill Climb Challenge as an elapsed-time event, with teams eligible to make two timed race passes over the course of the weekend. Competitors will also be encouraged to make a practice run on Thursday in preparation for the scored runs beginning on Friday.

A cap of 144 entries is expected at the start line for the first event of it’s kind in Baja Mexico with racers coming from all over the United States and Mexico to participate.

REGISTRATION
Online registration, by class, for Pro and Sportsman cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles and quads, is ongoing through the official Mike’s Peak Hill Climb Challenge website. Drivers and co-drivers are also able to download the registration form and email or mail your entry form in if you prefer that method of entering.

Entries will be accepted until 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 1. Late entries after that date and all on-site late entries will be accessed a $200.00 USD late fee added to the original cost.

In addition to drivers and co-drivers filling out the Mike’s Peak Hill Climb Challenge registration and submitting payment, all competitors must apply for a United States Auto Club (USAC) SST Mike’s Peak Hill Climb Challenge single event license and provide proof of receipt.

START DRAW DEADLINE
The deadline to enter the race in order to be included in the drawing for starting positions is Saturday, October 1. The drawing, to determine the start order within each class, will be held on Monday, October 3.

RACE COURSE
When finished, the 31 km race course will be another memorable example of all that Mexico’s Baja California has to offer, including natural rollers, water crossings, high-speed dirt trails, sandy, rocky and silty natural terrain, and cattle guards, all while climbing to the top of Mike’s Sky Rancho at over 4,000 feet. The course will be another jewel reflecting the natural beauty Baja California represents.

RACE WEEK
Race week festivities will start Wednesday October 12 with the daylong, pre-race Manufacturer’s Midway and contingency/tech festival in front of the Riviera del Pacifico Culterural Center in Ensenada.

Wednesday night all racers will move out 52 miles east of Ensenada on Hwy 3 in close proximity towards San Felipe Valley and Trinidad where numerous 30’ x 70’ camp spots will await competitors arrival for set up.

Shortly after sunrise Thursday morning October 13, competitors will all have their first opportunity to tackle the course up the challenging hill to Mike’s Sky Rancho. Competitors will have one opportunity to make a practice run.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday based on class size competitors will be scheduled to make timed race passes up the hill to be scored towards whom is the fastest to Mike’s Peak.

AT THE RIVIERA…
The Riviera del Pacifico Cultural Center, in the heart of Ensenada, will be the site of many of the activities surrounding the Mike’s Peak Hill Climb Challenge. Racer registration, Media registration and mandatory pre-race meeting will all be held at the Riviera on Wednesday, October 12.

On-site camping, close proximity to Ensenada (52 miles East on Hwy 3), San Felipe Valley, and Trinidad, and multiple road access to viewing points, mean the race to Mike’s Peak will instantly become a fan and driver favorite. Mike Leon, an American citizen whose family came from Jalisco, Mexico, had owned a couple of bars in Tijuana, but by the mid-1960s he’d had enough of the demanding grind and began looking for a more pastoral setting. In 1967, he bought several thousand acres under the dark skies and twinkling stars of Baja California’s highest mountains and opened Mike’s Sky Rancho, a guest resort in the high foothills of the San Pedro Mártir. Sitting on a knoll above the San Rafael creek in a picturesque and wooded valley, it’s a steep, brush-covered mountains rise in the background to the pine-covered 7,100-foot summit of Cerro San Matìas, visible off to the east. CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 17, 2016) – CBS Sports Network will broadcast round eight and nine of the 2016 SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS World Championship from Detroit, Michigan on Sunday, June 19 at 3 p.m. ET (12 p.m. PT).

The one-hour broadcast will feature two thrilling races from the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, shown in their complete entirety.

Driver Matt Mingay Continues To Improve After Accident At Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix

Charlotte, North Carolina (June 15, 2016) – Driver Matt Mingay, who was injured in the Stadium SUPER Truck Series (SST) race at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix on June 4, has been upgraded to fair condition as he remains hospitalized at DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Mingay’s family reports that the Australian driver suffered facial and head injuries in the accident, along with a small fracture of his T1 vertebrae, and he continues to make progress in his recovery.

Mingay and his family remain hopeful that he will be released from hospital in the coming days, barring any setbacks, and he will travel home to his native Australia where he will continue his recovery.

SST Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix Race No. 2 Update

Detroit, Michigan (June 4, 2016) –Driver Matt Mingay was injured today in the Stadium SUPER Truck Series at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. Mingay’s truck overturned during the third lap of today’s race, which was eventually suspended after a lengthy delay due to the incident.

Mingay was transported to DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital where he is currently listed in serious condition, but is stable at this time, according to a hospital spokesperson.

According to Mingay’s family, he suffered facial injuries.

Matt Brabham Wins First Ever SST Race at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix Opener

Detroit, Michigan (June 3, 2016) – Coming off a top-25 finish in the 100 running of the Indianapolis 500 last Sunday; Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia driver Matt Brabham raced to his first SPEED Energy Stadium Super Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS victory Friday at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix Race 1.

Filling in for driver Robby Gordon, whom is in Ensenada, Mexico competing in Baja 500 this Saturday, Matt Brabham would not let down his new boss down tracking down early leader Scottsdale, Arizona driver Arie Luyendyk Jr. from his ninth starting position after the competition caution to race away to an extensive lead.

Brabham whom has been on absolute fire in Stadium SUPER Trucks competition in 2016 has been on the podium in every event and Friday’s race did not prove no different as Brabham proved Gordon’s choose to put him in the truck was a great decision as he ran away to his first victory in Stadium SUPER Trucks competition.

“It was terrific when Robby called and offered me the seat for today and tomorrow and I could not be happier to bring the Arctic Cat/ Toyo Tires truck home in first place. I really enjoy my Stadium Super Truck racing and to get my first ever win today to cap off an amazing three weeks of racing was a real bonus” Stated and ecstatic Matt Brabham in Victory Lane.

Luyendyk whom lead the first six laps in the Quicken Loans backed entry would go on to finish in the second position, while local hero Aaron Bambach of Rochester Hills, Michigan would place his 3Dimensional.com /Titan Wealth Advisors truck back on the podium in the third spot repeating his 2014 efforts.

Paul Morris of Norwell, Queensland, Australia driving the United Fiber & Data/ LIVE truck No. 67 would drive a calm and conservative race in his new blue livery except for the last lap where the driver known as the “The Dude” made an aggressive move to work his way past TRAXXAS driver Keegan Kincaid to nab the fourth position.

Filling in for SafeCraft Safety Systems driver Tyler McQuarrie, whom had another race event scheduled for Friday and Saturday’s events would make the call to Scotty Steele of Peoria, Arizona to make his first start of the 2016 season. Steele would settle into the seat of the No. 6 right where he left off in Sydney of last December hanging with the front-runners and making moves towards a podium finish. In a last lap shuffle of positions Steele would fall back to respectable fifth place finish.

Dustin Scott of Inver Grove Heights, Minn. would once again show strong signs of competing for a podium early in the event keeping up with the quick pace of Luyendyk and Bambach, but would find trouble on the ultra tight course nosing the SPEED Energy/ Cobra Transportation truck into the tire barrier and having to work his way back through field. Scott would go on to finish his fifth Stadium SUPER Trucks race in the sixth position.

Fast Qualifier and current point leader Sheldon Creed of Alpine, Calif. would start his first ever race on the Belle Isle Street Circuit in the last position. In typical Sheldon Creed fashion the young driver would work his way to the front of the pack challenging Luyendyk and Bambach for the second position quickly. However, contact with the outside wall would see Creed loose his hood and the handle on his No. 1 TRAXXAS truck in the closing laps to fade back in the pack with suspension damage. Limping his truck across the finish line Creed was credited with the seventh position.

Making his return to Stadium SUPER Truck competition after a year hiatus E.J. Viso of Caracas, Venezuela driving the United Fiber & Data/ Think Loud Investments No. 83 would fight the handling of his truck early in the event finishing with a eighth place finish.

Australian SST regular Matt Mingay of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia making his debut on American soil on Friday substituting for SST regular Pat O’Keefe would struggle getting familiar with the braking of the new course hitting the tire barriers multiple times to bring home the SafeCraft Safety Systems SST home in the ninth position.

TRAXXAS driver Keegan Kincaid of Crandon, Wisc., would experience a bent a-arm after making contact with Los Angeles, California driver Burt Jenner who bounced off the outside wall on Lap-1. Recovering from that contact Kincaid would work his way back into fifth on the last lap, but contact with Morris would spin the No. 47 around ultimately forcing Kincaid to a tenth place finish.

United Fiber and Data/ LIVE driver Bill Hynes of Nazareth, Penn., would go on to finish the twelve-lap event in the eleventh position ahead of Los Angeles, California’s Burt Jenner who made his first start in the Royal Purple Synthetic Oil truck would hit the wall on the first lap and retire his truck early.

Corp (Toyo Tires) announced today the company has extended its commitment as the Official Tire of SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks presented by TRAXXAS for 2016. The racing series has become a global sensation, now with races in the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia and in New Zealand.

This is the third year that the Stadium SUPER Trucks™ (SST) compete exclusively on Toyo Open CountryA/T II tires, and is the fourth year that Toyo Tires has supported the series. The off-the-shelf Open Country A/T II tires demonstrate their remarkable durability and handling ability by living up to the extreme punishment dished out by the 600-plus horsepower spec trucks. During competition, the trucks often land hard on asphalt tracks from extreme heights and attitudes.

That is a challenging task when reaching speeds on some tracks as high as 130-mph, and while launching them as high as 20 feet off the ground.

Joining Team Toyo this year is defending 2015 SST champion Sheldon Creed from Alpine, CA. At only 18-years of age, Creed is the youngest member of Team Toyo, and the youngest champion in the history of SST. He leads in 2016 having won Rounds 1 and 3 in Adelaide, Australia; Round 4 in St. Petersburg, FL; and Rounds 6 and 7 in Long Beach, CA.

The Inaugural “MIKE’S PEAK HILL CLIMB CHALLENGE”, October 13-16, 2016

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 26, 2016)- SPEED Energy and Stadium SUPER Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS today announced the inaugural Mike’s Peak Hill Climb Challenge at the legendary Mike’s Sky Rancho in Baja California, Mexico. In honor of 50 years of Baja Racing on the road to Mike’s, SST has partnered with the Ranch to invite all off-road vehicles – of the two, three or four wheeled varieties – to compete in this challenging hill climb competition.

Everyone is welcome to take a run to be the fastest to conquer “Mike’s Peak.” The four-day event will run October 13-16, 2016 with classes ranging from but not limited to; SST/short course trucks, Ultra 4’s, rock crawlers, rally cars, desert trucks, buggies, to quads, UTV’S and motorcycles.

“We’re seeing new attendance records for SST all the time, so having our lightweight, high horsepower, nimble trucks race to Mike’s is the perfect way to introduce this newest contest to fans and drivers of Baja,” said SST series founder, Robby Gordon. “I can’t wait to see how the SST’s stack up against other vehicles that attempt to make this climb. It’s a 100% dirt track, with more turns than Pike’s Peak before you reach a first of its kind water crossing finish at Mike’s.” The planned route is 31 km with nearly a 4,000 foot ascent through cattle guards and water crossings.

“Adding a SPEED Energy Stadium Super Trucks Presented by TRAXXAS event in Mexico has always been a dream, and there are so many historic events in racing this year – from the 100th running of the Indy 500 and the return of the Ford GT to Le Mans, to the 100th anniversary of the first Pike’s Peak Hill Climb – I believe this is the best time to launch such a unique and old school event,” added Gordon. “We wanted to give the racers and fans something longer, something more challenging on man and machine, so we’re bringing back the dirt roads, getting rid of the guard rails, and inviting everyone with a race car and a dream.”

Race winners are decided by driver skill rather than individual team engineering and budgets. ABOUT MIKE’S SKY RANCHO

Mike Leon, an American citizen whose family came from Jalisco, Mexico, had owned a couple of bars in Tijuana, but by the mid-1960s he’d had enough of the demanding grind and began looking for a more pastoral setting. In 1967, he bought several thousand acres under the dark skies and twinkling stars of Baja California’s highest mountains and opened Mike’s Sky Rancho, a guest resort in the high foothills of the San Pedro Mártir. Sitting on a knoll above the San Rafael creek in a picturesque and wooded valley, it’s a steep, brush-covered mountains rise in the background to the pine-covered 7,100-foot summit of Cerro San Matìas, visible off to the east. The crystal-clear San Rafael stream winds through the valley floor and must be forded to reach the ranch.
